Recap / Pokemon HAC 26 Ghastly Gorge

Go To

Flash and his friends finally reach Ghastly Gorge, which they will need to cross if they want to get to Baltimare City. Unfortunately, traversing through the canyon will be tougher than they could've imagined.

  • Bait-and-Switch: Upon first arriving, the main group finds Solid Stone lying in a pool of red liquid, which freaks everyone out, thinking that he's been murdered. However, Springer pokes at his body and wakes him up, revealing that the liquid was actually ketchup and he was knocked out.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Ghastly Gorge is full of Crawlders, aggressive beetle Pokémon that attack Flash and his friends.
  • The Bus Came Back: Pinkie Pie makes a sudden reappearance in this chapter, showing up in a balloon and accompanying the group on their journey through Ghastly Gorge.
  • Death of a Thousand Cuts: Springer might be physically weaker than Machamp, but wins by slowly wearing Machamp out, dodging all its attacks, until he is able to quickly strike back and it seems like he is hitting Machamp a hundred times a second.
Flash: Our attacks might be ten times weaker than yours, but if we can hit you ten times before you hit us once, it'll even out. And if we hit you twenty, thirty or forty times, then we can defeat you!
  • Desecrating the Dead: Subverted with Solid Stone. When everyone initially thinks he is dead, Springer starts poking at him, and Flash orders him to show respect to the departed. But then it is revealed Stone wasn't dead, just sleeping, and springs awake, which Springer knew because he sensed his aura.
  • Elemental Punch: Stone's Machamp knows Thunder Punch, Ice Punch, and Fire Punch. It can even use all three of them and Drain Punch together, one arm each, in a move called "Quartet Punch Fury".
  • Everything Trying to Kill You: Ghastly Gorge is a hostile environment full of landslides, sinkholes, underground labyrinths, and aggressive Pokémon.
  • Graceful Loser: After Flash beats Stone in a Pokémon battle, the latter agrees to let him journey through Ghastly Gorge, even giving him some items like a map to help ease his journey (even if the map turns out to be difficult to read).
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Pinkie Pie joins the group in the journey through Ghastly Gorge since they were heading to her hometown Baltimare City.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Flash sees that Stone's second Pokémon is a Machamp, one of the strongest and most well known Fighting-Types ever, he just whispers "That's not good" to himself.
  • Only the Worthy May Pass: Stone only agrees to let Flash's group pass through Ghastly Gorge if he beats him in a Pokémon battle. When Flash does so, Stone believes Flash has proved he can handle the upcoming challenges and agrees to let him pass the next day.
