Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 17 Carpe Diem

Go To

After an experiment fails in the XXV century, creating an anomaly that will erase everything that exists, existed or will exist, Paperinik has no choice but to ally with the Raider to save the whole universe.

Tropes In This Issue:

  • Apocalypse How: A class X-4, universal physical annihilation, almost happened. All time and space would be reduced to a white void if Paperinik and the Raider fail to stop the experiment.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The tie Newton gives to Paperinik as a good luck charm plays an essential role in the mission.
  • Continuity Nod: The events of "The Day of The Cold Sun" are referenced.
    • The way Newton allures Paperinik is the same the Raider did in said issue: pick up a fight with the police.
    • Vostok recounts how the Organization got the Raider out of the state he was in at the end of that issue.
  • Deadpan Snarker: The skinny male leader of the Organization doesn't exactly overreact to bad news.
Vostok:"Future, present and past are about to disappear!"
Skinny leader:"Boy, how I hate Monday mornings!"
  • Dragon with an Agenda: The Raider reveals that, if their mission is a success, his bosses are planning to leave Paperinik at some point in the faraway past, but he will bring him back to Duckburg himself if he will let him have the energy source they were sent to steal to stop the experiment, to allow him to rebuild his Othership.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: Well, Newton is, since he dresses up as a timepoliceman to steal a machine to free the Raider from prison. Paperinik is just doing it because he has to.
  • Enemy Mine: Paperinik must team up with the Organization to save all the timeline.
  • Evil Versus Oblivion: The Organization is composed by a bunch of time pirates. They'd like to keep their job and their life, thank you very much.
  • Face Palm: One of the guards does this after realizing he told to Paperinik and the Raider the only way to get in the otherwise completely sealed laboratory.
  • Go Mad from the Revelation: Witnessing the bubble of nothing he created and understanding it will eventually erase all reality, doctor Yamato simply smiles and lets himself get swallowed.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Newton berates Paperinik for bringing too much attention to them after he was about to open fire in a timepolice station.
  • Ironic Echo: The governor asked Doctor Yamato what it fell like to enter history. When the experiment goes wrong, creating the anomaly that would erase time:
"Tell me,governor...what it feels like to exit history?"
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: The Raider obtains the energy source only to find out it is completely consumed.
  • Meanwhile, in the Futureā€¦: Inverted.
"At the same time, two centuries earlier..."
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Really, how else can you describe it when the time-space continuum is saved by a horrible tie?
  • Nebulous Evil Organisation: The Organization. So nebulous that their name is just that.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Paperinik and the Raider go to the future to stop the experiment... except their presence actually convinces doctor Yamato (the guy in charge of it) to start it sooner.
The Raider:"We should have saved the universe... Instead we condemned it!"
    • It's also implied that they ruined it the first time (either them or an Organization agent trying to stop it)... And they do it again this time.
  • No Name Given: The three leaders of The Organization will remain nameless during the whole series.
  • Phrase Catcher: Newton.
Vostok/Paperinik:"Nice tie! Did you lose a bet or dress up in the dark?"
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: A subversion, since Paperinik and The Raider must set right something that will go wrong in the future.
  • Those Two Guys: Newton and Vostok form an hilarious duo.
  • Thou Shall Not Kill: Paperinik has to remind the Raider to go easy on the guards, since they are only doing their job and they think they are the bad guy.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Paperinik must break the law to save the world.
  • Violence is the Only Option: Newton surely has this mindset: are they having trouble finding Paperinik? Let's do enough damage to allure him. Are they having trouble in getting the weapons they need? He'll try to blow the timepolicemen up.
  • Working Title: "The End of Time".
