Season 5, Episode 7

Ina Paha (If Perhaps)

When McGarrett is kidnapped by Wo Fat, he experiences what would have happened to the team members if they had taken different paths.
  • Anachronism Stew: "Then We Kiss" by Icona Pop was released in 2013, while the scene that takes place is a re-hash of the Pilot, in 2010.
  • Big "NO!": Steve shouts one believing his father was killed by Victor Hesse. Danny manages to save him, but it was all just a dream.
  • Boom, Headshot!: In the episode's climax, McGarrett is able to take Wo Fat down and put a bullet through his forehead.
  • The Bus Came Back: Sang Min.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Wo Fat puts McGarrett through for the second time in the show.
  • Human Shield: Steve uses Wo Fat's dead mook as this when Wo Fat tries to shoot him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Wo Fat, courtesy of McGarrett delivering a Boom, Headshot! in the episode's climax.
  • Manly Tears: After Danny gently reminds Steve that his father died, Steve falls to this.
  • Milestone Celebration: This is the series' 100th episode.
  • Point of Divergence: The thing that changed everything in Steve's dream was Danny stopping his father from being killed.
  • Shout-Out: Danny refers to Victor Hesse as Bono.
  • What If?: If Steve's father was not killed, Five-0 would not exist, which would have led to the following scenarios:
    • Steve remained with the Navy instead of transferring to the Reserves.
    • Instead of investigating John's death, Danny lead his rescue. He'd be happily married to Rachel, loving the move to Hawaii, and acts as a Cowboy Cop who employs regular Steve's interrogation tactics.
    • Chin's reputation as a police officer is upstanding, having been promoted to Captain.
    • Kono is a surfing champion, and the spokesperson for "Surf-Kiss Lipstick".
    • Grover is still with the Chicago Police Department, golfing in Honolulu.
    • Retaining the Conspiracy Theorist vibe, Jerry is homeless.
    • Max works in ER instead of the county morgue.
    • Kamekona is in prison, has head tattoos, a deeper voice, and a mustache.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: At the hospital, Steve gives Danny one for shooting Victor in the knee.
  • Word of God: The show's creators have outright stated that this episode was a "Thank You" to the fans.
