Recap / Harley Quinn (2019) S1 E7 "The Line"

Go To

The newly-freed Queen of Fables joins Harley's crew for a heist.

Tropes:

  • Attack Reflector: In order to get past the security lasers at Kord Industries, Harley's crew steals a forcefield wristwatch from Star Labs that bounces anything that hits it back where it came.
  • The Cameo: Fables is let out of the tax book by Zatanna. (Animation still doesn't let her wear fishnets, even in this series.)
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Harley mistakes Jason's ponytail for that of a little girl's because he's currently hiding behind a bench and that's all of him she can see at her angle.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: As part of the episode's Title Drop, Harley's crew is horrified by Fable's wanton slaughter of innocents (with King Shark throwing up at the memory).
  • Face Death with Dignity: When Cinderella's mouse is sliced up by Kord's security lasers, he uses his last moments to take one last drag from his cigarette.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Fables slaughters a family in the middle of a reunion and get the gang to make sure there are no more witnesses. Harley invokes this on purpose, but it bites them all in the ass when Jason Praxis, a Sole Survivor, comes for revenge. Fables decides to rectify this mistake when Harley defeats him.
  • Honey Trap: Clayface disguises himself as a woman named Brenda to get info on Kord Industries security.
  • Insult Backfire: When the mayor calls Harley a scourge, her crew are ecstatic that they've moved up from being a nuisance (and skipped past menace).
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Harley pretends to give up Fables to Jason, but covertly slips the forcefield device on her so Jason's attack will rebound and knock him out.
  • Leave No Witnesses: Fables slaughters an entire family reunion so they won't rat out the crew or seek revenge on her for the killings.
  • LOL, 69: Kite Man flips one of the 6s in his apartment number so it reads "69". "Nice!" Ivy isn't impressed.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Cinderella's mouse is sliced to pieces by a laser grid.
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: Harley's crew succeeds in their plan to steal a weather machine, but it turns out to be password protected. After too many failed passwords attempts, the machine self-destructs.
  • Mythology Gag: The restaurant Kite Man tried taking Ivy to is called Martha's Bruce Steakhouse. Well, Martha's son did buy a fancy restaurant on impulse once.
  • Overly Narrow Superlative: Cinderella's mouse was the mouse that smoked the most unfiltered cigarettes made for humans that King Shark has ever seen.
  • Pet the Dog: Harley lies about what she assumes is a little girl at the family reunion Fables slaughters. It turns out to be a man with a ponytail who comes back for revenge.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Ivy and Kite Man are dating now (and it's mentioned their relationship is now sexual also), though she's still embarrassed by his complete lack of tact.
  • Revenge Myopia: When Fables' overkill methods of handling witnesses becomes too much for Harley's gang, they kick her out. When Fables decides to steal from them as revenge for doing so, Harley points out that even if they had an argument she still broke Fables out of prison and helped her get back in the villain game. Even in the end, after Harley saves her life (from a hero her own methods created, no less), Fables still swears revenge on Harley anyway.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Whatever was the password for the weather machine.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Harley and her crew pull off two complicated heists that sees them burning bridges with the Queen of Fables after she slaughtered an entire extended family in a bloodbath, all so Harley could get her hands on a weather machine... that turns out to be password protected and self-destructs when they guess wrong too many times.
  • Shock and Awe: Jason Praxis has the power of electricity thanks to trying to kill himself on an electric fence at Star Labs.
