Blackmail may not be the ideal way to reunite a family, but it's the one they've gone with.

We have to distrust each other. It is our only defense against betrayal.

Black Claw's big boss Bonaparte arrives to lead a Wesen takeover of human society. Renard's mayoral campaign is a part of this plot, and Bonaparte uses magic to force Adalind to co-operate.

Nick fears he may lose everything, including Kelly, and seeks support from Monroe and Rosalee.

Hank is the target of a Honey Trap by Zuri.

This episode provides examples of:

  • The Bus Came Back: Rosalee's ex Tony returns, stealing and copying Hank's phone with Zuri's help. His fingers are still in casts from his encounter with Adalind.
  • Call-Back: Zuri is subjected to Eve's Facial Horror interrogation technique from "Star-Crossed".
  • Cliffhanger: Renard is named mayor and introduces Adalind, Diana and Kelly to the audience as his wife and children while Nick watches the broadcast at home and declares that Renard is a dead man. Meanwhile, Bonaparte says that Black Claw now knows where Hadrian's Wall is based thanks to their capture of Zuri.
  • Defiant Captive:
    • Adalind refuses to give Nick's location to Bonaparte.
Bonaparte: He will try to stop us, if he can. Whatever happens to him, you cannot take it personally. Now, where is he?
Adalind: I'm not going to tell you that.
      Bonaparte: We will find him.
Adalind: But I won't have helped.
    • Zuri refuses to cooperate with HW when she's taken prisoner, which leads to Eve breaking out her Enhanced Interrogation Techniques.
  • Dramatic Irony: After Zuri is captured, Bonaparte gets a call indicating that Black Claw know where she's being held.
  • Honey Trap: Zuri is revealed to be in a relationship with Hank to gather information for Black Claw.
  • Internal Reveal: Nick tells Trubel about the Crusaders' Treasure, and shows her the hiding place.
Nick: You're a Grimm. If anything happens to me, you and only you know where this is.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Averted.
    • Realising Renard has his son, a furious Nick has to be repeatedly talked down from killing the captain and taking his baby back.
Monroe: Nick, think about it. We're talking about a candidate in the middle of an election where the first candidate was assassinated. So, he's got, like, maximum protection.
    • Eve warns Trubel not to let her anger lead her to make mistakes.
  • Mind over Matter:
    • Delighted to have a baby brother, Diana plays with Kelly by picking him up with telekinesis. He seems to love it, but Adalind is less happy.
Adalind: It's really not a good idea to pick up a baby like that, and I think it's bedtime.
    • When Renard shows an interest in restarting their sexual relationship, Adalind telekinetically throws a vase at him to make him leave her room.
Adalind: Do you want more? Because that's what you're gonna get! [Renard leaves]
  • Mugging the Monster: Two Black Claw mooks are sent to kill Nick. One tells the other to stay behind as he follows Nick into some trees, because "he's mine!". He doubles back when he can't find Nick, finds his buddy dead and turns to see Nick aiming a gun at him.
  • Secret Test of Character: Realising Zuri might be using Hank to gather information for Black Claw, the gang devise a test. Nick comes to her house to tell her that Black Claw have targeted Hank and that he's there to take her to a safe house, giving her ten minutes to pack. She promptly calls Bonaparte to ask for instructions, not realising Hank has snuck into the house and heard the entire conversation.
Hank: So, I guess we didn't meet by accident. I really felt something for you, Zuri.
  • Shout-Out: Eve's line, "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood," comes from Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken.'
  • Spotting the Thread: After arresting Tony for breaking into Zuri's house, Hank wonders why he broke in but didn't take anything, even though he caught Tony on the way out. This leads to him realising that Tony copied Hank's phone, and that Zuri was working with him and thus Black Claw.
  • That Man Is Dead: Discussed. Trubel asks Eve about her commitment to helping Nick get Kelly back. She asks how Juliette would feel, to which Eve replies:
Eve: I don't go there. Too dangerous.
  • We Can Rule Together: Renard tries to recruit Nick to Black Claw's cause, claiming that they want the Grimms on their side (which doesn't exactly square with their stated goal of making Grimms extinct). He says that Kehrseites have been in charge and made a mess of things, so it's the Wesens' turn.
Renard: The Kehrseite have had this world for too long, and they've ruined it.
