Tropes

  • Affably Evil: Headhunter is surprisingly polite and chipper for a hired gun.
  • Becoming the Mask: Bruce starts to embrace his "billionaire brat" schtick and puts it to good use while clubbing with his friends.
  • The Bus Came Back: Tommy Elliot, AKA the future Hush, shows up in his first appearance since Season 1's "The Mask".
  • Call-Back: When Tommy meets with Bruce again, he mentions that the last time they met, the latter punched him in the face.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: Barbara abandons Selina and Tabitha to face the Demonz on their own, but then shows up to quickly resolve the situation.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: When one of the Demonz unknowingly lets Selina steal their stash, the rest of his colleagues kill him by running his face under a motorcycle wheel. Ouch!
  • Dramatic Unmask: Professor Pyg's face is finally revealed when he removes the prosthetics used for his Fisoli disguise.
  • Enemy Mine: Gordon and Bullock once again team up with the Penguin (and his new gun-for-hire Headhunter) to take down Professor Pyg. Though reluctant on Gordon's part obviously. Deconstructed as Sofia points out to Penguin that publicly allying with the GCPD will mean that while he'll reap the rewards of any success, he'll also suffer the cosnequences of any failures that occur. After Pyg's ambush result in Penguin's men refusing to rescue Harvey and the other cops while Gordon gets lauded as a hero for the rescue, the police start to refuse enforcing Cobblepot's license system.
  • Imagine Spot: When Brant badmouths Alfred in front of Bruce, the latter proceeds to beat the ever living crap out of him. Then the scene rewinds to show that Bruce was only imagining it.
  • Ironic Echo: "The second one is my signature."
  • Jerkass: Brant
  • Kick the Dog: Headhunter pulls an ailing elderly man off of his wheelchair and onto the streets in an attempt to squeeze information out of his wife. It works.
    • Barbara towards Tabitha and Selena. With Ra's al Ghul gone, there's no reason to to have them around.
  • Master of Disguise: Turns out that Pyg is quite the actor, as he manages to perfectly disguise himself as Fisoli (one of his victims) to trick Gordon.
    • Fisoli was from another precinct so Jim not recognizing him is understandable.
  • Mexican Standoff: Between the police and Penguin's men, when Headhunter threatens to shoot a sick old man if he doesn't get an answer.
  • My God, What Have I Done?:
    • Bullock shot a cop thinking it was Pyg, who had actually dressed her up as a setup. Fortunately she'll live, but it really affected him because he wouldn't listen to Gordon.
    • Bruce is still dealing with killing Ra's al Gul and begins to spiral when he runs into former classmates of his, ditching a fund-raiser, buying a club, and getting wasted.
  • Pre-Mortem One-Liner: Barbara says one to the Demonz before gunning them down.
Barbara: Hello? Excuse me, did you guys order Thai?
    Demon: No.
Barbara: Good, 'cause I don't have any. (starts shooting)
  • Race Lift: Headhunter (who's white in the comics) is played here by black actor Kyle Vincent Terry.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Penguin stabs Headhunter for saying they should have listened to Gordon.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: In the end, the cops no longer accept the licenses.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The last time we saw Tommy Elliot, he was bullying Bruce and badmouthing his mother. Now, he seems to have matured out of his bully phase, and acts much friendlier towards his old classmate.
  • Wham Line: While in the ambulance, Fisoli tells Gordon that he's "one of the good ones". Later on, Pyg calls Gordon warning him about the trap he set in the courthouse, and ends the conversation with the exact same line... which he says in Fisoli's voice. Turns out that the man Gordon was talking to in the ambulance was none other than the Pyg in disguise.
  • Wild Teen Party: Bruce, Grace, Tommy, and Emma partake in one at the club, complete with wild dancing, intense make out sessions, and underage drinking.
