Recap / Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends S3E6 "Foster's Goes to Europe"

Go To

Mac wins a trip to Europe from a sweepstakes and is taking all the Foster gang with him! But there's problems all over delaying their departure and knowing this show, you can fill in the blanks from there.

The episode provides examples of:

  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: Eurotrish. She's basically a relentless parody of this trope. She says she's from Europe, and seems to mean that literally... in that she wears clothes that combine stereotypes of at least six different European nationalities (Dutch clogs, a french beret, a shirt with the British flag, among other things) her accent keeps changing, and she always says she wants to go home to Europe, not to any specific country. At the end of the episode, we see her "back home in Europe" in a little stereotypical village that could be almost anywhere. The locals promptly get fed up with her singing and throw her out, just as they did when she lived there at an earlier time.
  • Call-Back: One of the things Wilt decided not to take with him is the "Deo" deodorant stick from The Sweet Stench of Success. Given the revelation in that episode that they don't work, Wilt probably did himself a favor...
  • Downer Ending: The whole end of this episode:
    • For Mac and everyone not named Eurotrish, where it turns out that they end up not going because MADAME FOSTER STOLE THE TICKETS. And everyone blames Mac, who had spent the entire episode trying to get them out the door.
    • There's also the ending for Eurotrish: she finally returns to her owner in Europe, and, naturally, she must sing a song to express her happiness — only to be interrupted by her owner shouting out the window, "Stop the singing! Why do you think we sent you away in the first place?" Afterward, Eurotrish dejectedly sulks away, singing, "I'm-a going to America..."
  • Ad-Break Double-Take:
Wilt: The spark plugs are gone!
    Mac: What does that mean?
    Wilt: Somebody sabotaged the bus.

    Wilt: Somebody sabotaged the bus!
  • Ethnic Scrappy: Eurotrish is one In-Universe: she sings off-key, has a questionable design and voice and was rejected by her creators who found her annoying. However, Poe's Law is certainly in effect.
  • Never Trust a Title: What? You though the Foster gang was going to go to Europe? HA! They didn't even get to board the plane.
  • Jerkass Ball: While Madame Foster has held this multiple times, this is mostly agreed by many fans to be the worst example of this. With her stealing the airplane tickets from Mac to travel with her friends.
  • Overly Long Hug: When Madame Foster steals tickets to Europe from Mac, she does it by hugging him tightly for a good few seconds. Mac is honestly very weirded out by it and quickly leaves when Madame Foster lets go.
  • Pet the Dog: While this episode is one of Madame Foster's worst moments in the entire series, she did bring along Eurotrish on the trip, an imaginary friend who was looking forward to going to visit her original family, only to repeatedly become dejected because Bloo was changing his mind about going. It unfortunately makes The Stinger of the episode harsher, however.
  • Plot Hole: The second time Bloo takes Eurotrish's ticket doesn't make sense, since he gave his to Eduardo's stuffed bunny, not her.
  • Potty Emergency: Bloo, Wilt, Coco, Mr. Herriman and Frankie each have two. Within the same episode, Eduardo has three of his own, the first two with his aforementioned friends, and the third when it is revealed that somebody sabotaged the Foster's bus.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: This episode somehow manages to end both of its A-plot and its B-plot with one:
    • A-Plot: Throughout the entire episode, the cast is trying to get prepared for a trip to Europe, and once everyone's ready Madame Foster hugs Mac in a ploy to pickpocket his plane tickets for her and her friends.
    • B-Plot: Eurotrish keeps getting and losing opportunities to tag along with them and see her creator's family again; once she manages to ride with Madame Foster to Europe, she finds that her creator sent her to Foster's because her constant singing was annoying.
  • Time Zones Do Not Exist: Averted. When Mr. Herriman presents a schedule for gang's European trip, only to take it back for revisions once Mac reminds him of the different timezone.
  • Vacation Episode: Donconstructed. As the episode goes in something that your typical episodes like this usually doesn't even touch on: The whole "packing up and getting to the airport" part.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: After Eurotrish finally makes it back to her creator's home, her creator turns her away because she couldn't stand her singing, which was the reason she sent her to Foster's in the first place.
