Two destroyers of worlds- one who revels in the title, and one who regrets it- face off.
Tropes
- Badass Fingersnap: How Oppenheimer ends his second verse.Oppenheimer: Anyone who believes that 'Thanos did nothing wrong' crap has obviously never heard you rap! Oh snap.
- Card-Carrying Villain: Unlike Oppenheimer, Thanos revels in his villainy, calls himself 'Monstrous', and boasts about killing Gamora.
- Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Thanos is an Eternal and a galactic-level threat in the Marvel Universe. Oppenheimer is a normal human scientist. This does not stop the latter from getting some serious burn in against the former.
- Dirty Communists: Thanos calls Oppenheimer one (the real Oppenheimer did have communist leanings, but no association with any communist countries).Thanos: For a communist pariah, you come off as awfully cocky.
- The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: The Announcer gets Snapped before he can finish the sign-off.
- Genius Bonus: There's details on the show's page, but suffice to say that this rap gets better the more you know about nuclear physics and comics history.
- Handicapped Badass: Oppenheimer suffered from throat cancer and audibly struggles with the last lines of his first verse. He still manages to utterly roast Thanos.
- I Did What I Had to Do: Oppenheimer's opinion on the bomb.Oppenheimer: I'm a peaceful man, but I do what I must.
- Motor Mouth: Oppenheimer, for his first verse, although he can't keep it up due to being a heavy smoker.
- My God, What Have I Done?: J. Robert Oppenheimer spends the battle in a state of shell-shock with a Thousand-Yard Stare. Truth in Television, since it was based on his famous 'Now I am become Death, destroyer of worlds' interview. Thanos has a few lines about it.Thanos: You're a pencil-pushing Terran who never learned to love his bomb.
- Ominous Visual Glitch: Oppenheimer has a few, to match the old television style of his segments.
- Radio Voice: Oppenheimer has a filter to this effect, to make it seem like he's being heard over a television.
- Puny Earthlings: Thanos dismisses Oppenheimer as a “Terran” who breaks and bleeds easily.
- Serial Homewrecker: The end of Thanos' first verse is about Oppenheimer's tendency to sleep with married women.Thanos: Apparently the only thing you're good at wrecking is a home!
- Sophisticated as Hell: Both rappers have bars about nuclear physics, the other's personal indiscretions... and internet memes.Thanos: You just got no answer for Fortnite's dopest dancer.Oppenheimer: I'll finish this like Ant-Man- all up in your stinky!
- Stock Footage: Oppenheimer's background is stock footage of the Trinity test, an event Oppenheimer personally witnessed.
- Suckiness Is Painful: Oppenheimer opens by saying Thanos's raps are bad enough to damage his ears.Oppenheimer: After your raps, I am become deaf.
- Terms of Endangerment: In real life, 'Oppie' was an Affectionate Nickname Oppenheimer's students used for their professor. Thanos uses it when dismissing Oppenheimer's ability to fight back against him.
- Tricked-Out Gloves: Thanos wears the Infinity Gauntlet throughout the video, and a few of his lines reference it.Thanos: Got a fist of gold when I'm rapping
Six infinity gems what I'm packing.
