Recap / DEATH BATTLE! S02E18 - Boba Fett VS Samus Aran

Go To

Bounty hunting, one of the most respected and fun jobs in the world. I don't know about respected, but certainly a daring profession only for the strong and bold.

Boba Fett, the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy. And Samus Aran, a hunter so determined she'll sacrifice a planet to reach her goal.

The eighteenth episode of the second season is a remaster of the first episode, which features two bounty hunters of fiction. In this episode dedicated to the late Monty Oum, their weapons, armor and skills are revisited by Wizard and Boomstick leading up to the reimagining of a death battle.

Wiz and Boomstick start off where Boba Fett was conceived... actually cloned to notorious bounty hunter Jango Fett, who gave his cloned son all he knows about the profession. When Jango died from being killed by Mace Windu, the ten-year-old Boba lived the life of the bounty hunter, donning his father's armor and making a name for himself as one of the galaxy's greatest.

His body armor is composed of Mandalorian Iron, and has a micro energy field to disperse some of the impacts from blows. Although the material is tougher than titanium, it is still heavier and trades off mobility in favor of durability, even resisting lightsabers. His gauntlet houses flamethrowers, a fiber whip for binding opponents and an array of concussion and stun missiles, and his weapon of choice is an EE-3 carbine rifle. He also has with him a jetpack to quickly travel short distances, and houses a single anti-vehicle homing rocket.

True to being one of the most feared bounty hunters, he has killed hundreds of targets that include politicians and Jedi, and has even fought Mace Windu to a stalemate when he was only twelve. However, he had one glaring weakness in the form of being inadvertently knocked into the Sarlacc pit by a weakened Han Solo, and his saga comes to an end since Disney bought the rights to Star Wars and rendered the extended universe mostly non-canonnote ... but why just settle for canon, since we have other facts to cover? Fett used a combination of explosions and his jetpack to escape the Sarlacc, becoming leader of the Mandalorian army after the Galactic Civil War and having fought Darth Vader twice with lightsabers he obtained from killing Jedi. However, he had since fallen into the Sarlacc pit twice in succession, and the thing isn't even mobile either. Still no denying that Boba's ferocity is legendary, and when he has his sights on someone, few can get away.

Darth Vader: No disintegrations!
Boba: As you wish.

The hosts then move on to the analysis of Samus Aran, who spent her childhood in the Earth colony K-2L until the space pirates led by Ridley raided it and spared nobody else, even slaughtering her parents right in front of her. The Chozo rescued her and took her under their care, nurturing her in the ways of the warrior. This training combined with the augmentation of Chozo DNA enhanced Samus's strength, speed and athletic ability.

To accomodate her newfound flexibility, she wears the power suit (mostly in the environmental Zaria form) as well as a skin-tight Zero Suit underneath. While her Zero Suit form contains a paralyzer pistol and laser whip, she still prefers wearing the power suit, which can also be upgraded to adapt to environments, in most combat situations. Her combat mainstay is an Armcannon, which can be further upgraded to charge at levels that would annihilate most strong foes in a single strike. Her arsenal also includes ice beam, grapple beam, a plethora of missiles and power bombs that can quickly clear a room and make new entrances. Her flexibility enables her to roll into a ball to squeeze into tight spaces and glide quickly through the use of a Screw Attack.

Samus too made a name for herself claiming bounties from seemingly impossible missions, also bringing a near extinction to the Metroid species. However, she does have a tendency of losing all of her powerups at the start of every mission, and even in some cases when she brings them to a mission, its use can be situational, including one volcano moment where she doesn't activate her thermal systems until at least halfway through it, all just to wait for clearance (a moment the hosts were none to proud of bringing up). That aside, she still is one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy.

Samus: Time to go! (fires a single charged shot)

And so, with all of this out of the way, it's time for a Death Battle (remastered)!

Samus' gunship was on its way to a new location, when Samus realized that it was being followed by the Slave I, which fired on her and was sending her crashing into an unknown planet. Samus ejected just in time to meet her attacker, Boba Fett, as he descended from the sky by his jetpack.

FIGHT!

Both were evading each others' shots to start it off, and Boba even attempted to fire his jetpack rocket towards Samus, missing. Both charged at each other and lunged, with Samus landing a few melee hits before rolling up into a ball and dodging Boba's rockets, kicking him away as she reached him. As Boba regained composure, he dropped a pin and Samus looked down: a thermal detonator was right below her as it exploded.

Samus' power suit shorted out, and she is now in Zero Suit mode as she used her rocket boots to return to the fight, paralyzer pistol at the ready. Boba Fett then took out his lightsaber, deflecting the shots before Samus took out her laser whip, the two engaging in a clash of light blades. Eventually Boba fired his flamethrower but Samus dodged it for a while before sending a paralyzing bullet at it. The duel then continued before Samus kicked her foe away and sent an ice blast, freezing him in place, then charged up her pistol and shot his head clean off.

K.O.!

Samus walked away from the scene of the fight as what was left of Boba Fett shattered into a pile of ice chunks. While Fett did put up a good fight and was durable, Samus has the superior technology and athletic ability, and had dealt with powerful foes throughout her life. Samus was too quick to counter, and there's no effective way for Boba to defend from some of her attacks. Most of Boba Fett's kills have been attributed to his cunning; Boba works to play his opponents into a trap while Samus specifically modeled herself to anonymity.

Boomstick: Fett just couldn't keep his head in the game.
Wiz: The winner is Samus Aran!

Next time on Death Battle...
