Recap / DC Super Hero Girls 2019 S 2 E 7 Anger Management

Go To

When Jess coerces Kara into addressing her anger management issues, Supergirl’s superhero abilities become seriously compromised.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: The inciting incident for Jess wanting to address Kara's anger issues is when she threw a news van into the sky in response to a reporter calling her "Girl Superman".
  • "Anger Is Healthy" Aesop: Jessica's attempts to get Kara to repress her anger only make things worse, but despite how upset she is, Kara manages to avoid destroying anything while getting her point across to Jessica.
  • Blob Monster: Enraged that a pond with rare glowing algae in the park is going to be destroyed to make space for a monument to concrete that's just a concrete block, Poison Ivy turns the algae into a blob that rampages through the city.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: As Jess says, Kara needs a way to deal with her temper besides tantrums, but Kara makes a good point that she should be allowed to let people know that they've upset her. Of course, Jess loses her point entirely when she resorts to hypnosis.
  • Call-Back: To Kara's soft spot for cutesy animals from back in "#AdventuresInBunnysitting".
  • Continuity Nod: Jessica still persistently tries to help Pam and actually seemed to have gotten through to her... but only briefly. And Carter is still working through his pining for Shiyera.
  • Epic Fail: At one point, Mr. Chapin scolds Kara for failing HOMEROOM!
    • The stupidity of this is actually lampshaded by him:
Mr. Chapin: There you are Danvers! I just got word that you FAILED HOMEROOM! How do you manage to fail a block of time that doesn't even give grades?!
  • How We Got Here: The episode opens on Jessica and Kara trapped inside the algae monster, then flashes back to five days earlier to show how they got into this situation.
  • Hurl It into the Sun: How Supergirl finally deals with the algae monster, yanking out it's "heart" and throwing it into the sun.
  • Hypno Fool: Jessica hypnotizes Kara into seeing anything that aggravates her into something adorable. Unfortunately, this makes her unable to fight Poison Ivy's algae monster.
  • Nice Guy: Barry Allen continues to be a positive caricature of this, putting himself in Anger Management simply because once he was SO irked he actually said (and has to spell out) "H-E-C-K" and thinks less of himself for it.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Poison Ivy rants multiple No's! when her algae monster is destroyed, then has a Thousand-Yard Stare after getting drenched by the water that used to be the monster.
  • Shout-Out: For a joke — and as a test — Jessica makes Kara wear a burlap sack. Ricky and Fred inflicted the same on Lucy and Ethel once for a gag and as a payback.
  • You Remind Me of X: To snap Kara out of the trance, Jess admits that she's so stubborn about getting Kara to change because she was once so full of anger and negativity herself, and can't stand the reminder.
