Production code: CCD-411a

The last of a group of aliens seeks to find a cure for an alien disease that causes their species to literally punch themselves to death. They abduct Muriel, Eustace, and Courage in hopes that extracting DNA from them will give them the right formula for an antidote.

Ball of Revenge

Original air date: 11/8/2002

Production code: CCD-411b

Eustace is fed up with Muriel "spoiling" Courage and invites several of Courage's past enemies together to form the ultimate dodgeball team to kill him and satisfy their thirst for revenge.

Tropes present:

  • Back for the Dead: One-shot villains such as the Queen of the Black Puddle, the Cajun Fox, the Weremole, and the Big Toe reappear alongside recurring antagonist, Katz, only to meet their demise at the end of the episode.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Queen of the Black Puddle, the Cajun Fox, the Weremole, and the Big Toe return after being absent since their debut episodes waaay back in season 1.
  • Call-Back: Both the Big Foot and the Cajun Fox mention to Courage how he licked and cooked them respectively in their debut episodes.
  • The Cameo:
    • Freaky Fred appears on the TV at the end of the episode.
    • Two of the duck brothers randomly cameo for the halftime show.
  • Disproportionate Retribution:
    • When Muriel gives Courage a blanket, Eustace is consumed by envy and reunites some of the show's antagonists to kill the dog.
    • Inverted with Eustace's punishment. He kidnaps Muriel and tries to kill Courage, but his wife only disciplines him by hitting him on the head with a rolling pin and forcing him to sleep on the floor with the blanket he wanted (while an injured Courage sits on his chair), when he obviously deserved far worse. Though the roof did fall on him at the end as well.
  • Dodgeball Is Hell: Courage is forced to play a vicious game of dodgeball against the villains. Throughout the match, he is bitten by the Weremole, pelted by the Cajun Fox's dishes and buried under shellfish by the Black Puddle Queen.
  • Gaining the Will to Kill: Eustace's hatred for Courage reaches such a level that he gathers several past villains to murder him.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Eustace, yet again. At the end of "Ball of Revenge", he ends up on the floor with the blanket that Muriel knit for Courage, and Courage gets to sit in his chair.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After what he did to Courage, Eustace gets hit in the head by a rolling pin, sleeping on the carpet, and the house roof fell on him after Courage saw Freaky Fred on TV.
  • Legion of Doom: Courage has made enough enemies throughout the series to form one.
  • Red Sock Ruins the Laundry: Invoked; Katz puts colorful clothes and white clothes together in the washing machine to torture Muriel.
  • The Scream: Of course Courage always ends up screaming over something in every episode, but in "Ball of Revenge" he screams so hard that he ultimately defeats his enemies by forming a crack in the ground that they all fall into.
  • Super-Scream: Courage performs a long, ear-shattering scream, which causes a small earthquake and opens a chasm that the villains fall into.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Eustace bumps up his regular Jerkass level to become actively antagonistic.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Eustace calls up several of Courage's enemies to help kill him, despite the fact that several of them tried to kill Eustace before and Courage saved him from them. Special mention goes to the Queen of the Black Puddle, who tried to eat Eustace and was only stopped by Courage.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • Le Quack mysteriously disappears halfway through and as such, isn't present to fall into the chasm Courage creates by screaming.
    • The weremole was seen at the team, but he disappeared once he hopped inside the giant clam before the other villains fell to their death.

Katz: Fancy a sport before dying, old boy?
