"50-50 Carla" is the 20th episode of the eighth season of Cheers.
Eddie Le Bec's will has been read. Eddie's other wife, Gloria, got $100. Carla got everything else, namely, all of Eddie's debts and funeral expenses. An irritated Carla says she'd happily split everything with Gloria.
Naturally, that's the cue for a $50,000 insurance settlement check to arrive from Eddie's ice show. Carla is ecstatic to get $50K, and when the gang reminds her that she promised to split half of what she got from Eddie with Gloria, Carla says that Gloria never needs to know. Soon, Carla is racked with guilt.
In the B-plot, Woody's community theater troupe is putting on Hair—which, famously, has a nude scene.
Tropes:
- Bar Slide: Sam slides a beer over to a dazed Norm after an ecstatic Carla pulls him up onto the bar and kisses him.
- The Bus Came Back: Surprisingly, Gloria pops back up thirteen episodes after "Death Takes a Holiday on Ice".
- It's a Costume Party, I Swear!: Inverted. It turns out that Woody is the only member of the Hair cast that takes his clothes off.
- Large Ham: The cold open has Frasier and Robin do a sort of Large Ham duel in which Robin reels off the "this sceptered isle" monologue from Richard II, while Frasier bellows lines from Cyrano de Bergerac.
- Shout-Out
- Robin and Frasier recite monologues from Richard II and Cyrano de Bergerac.
- Woody is starring in a production of Hair.
- Unexpected Inheritance: Out of nowhere, Carla gets a $50,000 insurance settlement from the ice show.
- What You Are in the Dark: Carla's guilt over not sharing with Gloria is so strong that she gets the shakes.
- Written-In Absence: Although John Ratzenberger tells us the series is filmed before a studio audience, Cliff doesn't appear in the epiosode. He's said to be in hospital recovering from surgery.
