Recap / Camp Camp S 3 E 6 The Lake Lilac Summer Social

Go To

The annual lake-wide dance is not going well, mainly because everyone attending hates one another. But when Neil starts crushing on Erin from the Flower Scouts, Gwen tries to play matchmaker between them, only to have it backfire horribly.

Tropes:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Jermy has the hots for Sasha.
Sasha: Oh my God, I am literally throwing up in my mouth as we speak.
Jermy: See? We have so much in - hurrrk - common!
  • Alpha Bitch: Sasha continues her run for the worst camper on Lake Lilac. Special mention goes to simultaneously insulting Erin's intelligence and Tabii's missing eye.
Sasha: Erin, I love you, but bringing up "statistics" is about as sexy as a facial deformity.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: In the dance-off at the end of the episode, Sasha is unable to find a dance partner and loudly demands that a boy come dance with her. Cue Jermy Fartz, sliding into frame while mouth-breathing heavily and donning a fedora.
    Jermy: M'lady.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Nobody gets with their crushes at the end of the night, but they all do get closure. Neil turns down Erin when he realizes that he deserves better, Snake gets dumped by Tabii but successfully passes out a business card and earns a merit badge, Tabii gets some much-needed reassurance that she isn't ugly even with an eyepatch, and Erin gains some self-confidence and even changes her hair (with help from Tabii) to show off the eye she had previously hidden.
  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: How Snake describes Tabii.
Snake: She's as brutal as she is beautiful... she's brutiful.
  • Captain Oblivious: Gwen's is so focusing on matchmaking that she completely fails to notice Max and Nikki plotting mayhem five feet away in loud voices.
  • Character Development: Tabii seems to have finally caught onto the the fact that her sister isn't giving her very good advice.
  • Continuity Nod: Harrison is still practicing his milk-and-newspaper trick. The Flower Scouts aren't impressed.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: The time Ered Took a Level in Kindness in "Ered Gets Her Cool Back" seems to have stuck. She's very casual and friendly with Neil, and gives him solid advice to let go of his overthinking and just go for Erin.
  • Funny Background Event: Max and Nikki can occasionally be seen in the background scheming to ruin the night.
    • When the dancing starts, Nerris and Harrison visibly snub each other.
  • In Love with Your Carnage: Snake is infatuated with Tabii's capacity for violence.
  • Karmic Trickster: Max overhears Gwen telling David how thoroughly she's interfered with Neil's attempts to dance with Erin and decides to focus all his mischief on her.
  • Malaproper: When Erin admits to having heterochromia, Tabii's response is, "You're afraid of straight people?"
  • A Rare Sentence: When he realizes that Gwen does not plan to stop shipping the campers, David remarks, "So this is what it feels like to be the level-headed counselor."
  • Record Needle Scratch: When the Flower Scouts admit that they were using Neil and Snake to make each other jealous, the music cuts off with a scratch - it turns out that the Quartermaster accidentally stabbed his hook through the record.
  • Running Gag: Nikki wanting to swarm the mess hall with bees, and Max turning it down.
  • Shipper on Deck: Nothing good happens when Gwen decides to matchmake for her campers.
  • Stalker Shot: After Gwen tells David her plan to continue to interfere in the campers' relationships, the camera pans up to reveal Max hearing the whole thing and decides to change up his plans to cause chaos in dance with Nikki to something that would personally affect Gwen.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Jermy Fartz of all people gets to dance with Gwen (although making him happy was probably entirely incidental to Max's plans). He even declares that it's the happiest day of his life - right before vomiting on her shoes.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: This episode represents Max's least malicious mischief yet. The only ones hurt are Gwen, Sasha, and Pikeman, all of whom thoroughly have it coming. And he even makes Jermy's night! (Albeit mostly as side effect of ruining Gwen's.)
  • Visual Pun: When DJ-ing the party, Quartermaster dons a mask of a dead mouse.
