BoJack and Todd watch the "Sabrina's Christmas Wish" episode of Horsin' Around.

Tropes present in "Sabrina's Christmas Wish"

  • Actor/Role Confusion: Todd is in denial that "Goober" molested a bunch of Laker Girls. invoked
  • Christmas Episode: The whole episode takes place during Christmas, and the plot is Bojack and Todd seeing Horsin'Around's Christmas special. Bojack also says that they actually made one Christmas Special for each season of the show.
  • Deceased Parents Are the Best: This episode reveals that, in-universe, Sabrina's parents are confirmed to be dead, and her major wish is to be able to talk to them again.
  • Dramatic Irony: When the Horse tells his boss that if he has to choose between his career and the people he cares about, he will always choose those he care about. When we know in reality, the moment Bojack had to choose between his career and his friend, Herb, he just threw him under the bus without even trying to contact him afterwards. The fact that he is telling this directly to Herb, playing the role of his boss makes it specially tragic.
  • Framing Device: Most of the special is an episode of Horsin' Around framed around BoJack and Todd watching it, occasionally pausing for commentary.
  • Fridge Logic: In-Universe Todd questions if the episode climaxes with The Horse coming clean about Santa Claus not being real, only for the ending to heavily imply that he is.
  • The Grinch: Well at least BoJack is shown to have this attitude towards Christmas Specials, viewing them as cynical cash grabs.
  • Overly Long Gag: Ethan counting down from thirty, even when BoJack fast-forwards it.
  • Right Behind Me: The Horse starts badmouthing his boss Mr. Libertore for wanting his people to work on Christmas. He isn't right behind The Horse, however. No, he's actually listening over the intercom.
  • Santa's Existence Clause: The plot of the special, which doubles as a metaphor for God.
  • Shipper on Deck: The obnoxious audience member clearly ships The Horse and Tracy and Olivia and Goober.
  • Show Within a Show: We finally get to see a full episode of Horsin Around.
