Go To

Black Lightning and Thunder discover the kids that went missing thirty years are alive... and that the ASA are up to their old tricks.

  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Garfield High's vice-principal is working with the ASA to hunt down her own students.
  • Bulletproof Human Shield: Anissa acts as this for Jefferson during the fight with ASA gunmen, despite her much lower profile.
  • The Bus Came Back: Averted with Will. He's not really back, he's just another of Lala's hallucinations.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The ASA does this to Gambi.
  • Easily Forgiven: Subverted. Despite Anissa wanting to work with Gambi, Jefferson makes it quite clear he'll never forgive Gambi for what he did and he can never work with the man again. He does forgive Gambi at the end, when he sees Gambi was tortured nearly to death and still wouldn't give his secret up.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Local drug dealer Two-Bits witnesses a student from Jefferson's school take green light, display superpowers and immediately be abducted by men driving a white van. He's shocked and appalled by this and goes to Jefferson's house the next morning to inform him of what he saw.
  • Internal Reveal: The ASA has finally figured out that Gambi is no longer working for them. Black Lightning showing up in the warehouse after Gambi was there was the big tip off.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Gambi didn't cover his tracks well enough last episode, so the ASA is on to him.
    • Jefferson using his powers to briefly cause a blackout is enough for Proctor to figure out he's Black Lightning.
  • The Oner: A quite clever one to enhance the effect of Lala's visions of Will. He walks away from one, then passes by another on the other side of the screen which is actually another person seen from behind with the same haircut, and finally gets to a third, the actor having run around the set to get into position.
  • Police Are Useless: One of Jefferson's students is reduced to putting up flyers for her missing friend because the police can't be bothered to look for her since she was taking Green Light.
  • Power Incontinence: Jennifer flares up during an angry argument with Anissa, charring a couch.
  • Properly Paranoid: Gambi is always packing heat. When the ASA comes calling, he whips out two pistols immediately.
  • Sadistic Choice: Proctor warns Gambi if he starts shooting ASA agents, they'll have men start killing bystanders in the street. Proctor's actually disappointed that his men couldn't kill people.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Gambi endures torture at the hands of the ASA to not reveal Jefferson as Black Lightning. They then bring in Jefferson and threaten to kill him since he means so much to Gambi, leading to a risky play where Jefferson creates only a light power outage while the severely hurt Gambi disarms and shoots the agents. The payoff? Proctor still realizes the power outage came at the exact moment Jefferson was brought in and thus identifies him as Black Lightning.
  • Super Family Team: Jefferson and Anissa get even better at fighting off enemies as a well-oiled team. Jefferson creates an electric shield to stop a hail of bullets, allowing Anissa to take a breath and knock out the ASA gunmen with a stomp. Then Anissa acts as a bulletproof shield for her father, allowing him to take shots at the attackers from behind her.
  • Superpowerful Genetics: Jennifer's powers are similar to Jefferson's, but not quite the same. As Lynn explains, Jefferson is more like a battery, absorbing and manipulating electricity from the environment. But Jennifer is able to produce electricity all on her own, acting like a generator.
  • Wham Episode: Who's the ASA's latest "spotter"? The vice-principal of Garfield High. Then Martin Proctor lets it slip to her that Jefferson is Black Lightning.
