As Sharon complains about her job, some mysterious person who already knows them comes to the door. Her name is Emma, and she's apparently Dorien's granddaughter. Dorien is initially overwhelmed and wants her out, but the the sisters convince her to let her stay with them for a while.

At the bookies, Sharon comes into conflict with Area Manager Dennis Timms, who has received several complaints about her behavior. Although she isn't fired, she is given a final warning and given the Customer Service Manual to read.

After a night out where Travis finally loses his virginity and Dorien got involved in a paintball game, Tracey is pissed, thinking that Travis isn't ready for a relationship and it doesn't help that Emma is suggesting that Travis goes abroad for uni. Travis is sure he's in love until Emma reveals that she has to leave for Manchester, but not before revealing that Travis was a good lover. On the bright side, Sharon manages to get the Employee of the Month award by saving one of her fellow workers from an angry punter using the manual.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Brick Joke: At the start, Travis' childishness is shown when he asks for the crust to be removed from his pizza. At the end, Sharon notes that his relationship with Emma had turned him into a man when he eats the pizza with the crust still on.
  • Continuity Nod: Naomi had previously mentioned having a daughter back in "The Girls with the Pearl Buttons".
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Tracey is horrified when she sees Travis out with Emma and tries to call off the relationship.
  • Employee of the Month: Sharon manages to win the Employee of the Month award at the bookies after she successfully saves a worker from an angry punter.
  • Genki Girl: Emma is just a ball of positive energy and gets on well with everyone.
Dorien: She's such a ball of energy, so focused on the positive. Such an antidote to the sullen ponderous heap of negativity that is you, Sharon.
  • Gilligan Cut: Upon hearing that Travis has lost his virginity, Tracey is concerned about how it has affected him. Cut to Travis happily dancing to "Grow Up All Mexican Lucky" by Daft Punk.
  • Global Ignorance: Tracey thinks that Masstricht is in Scotland, leading to Dorien having to correct her by pointing out that it's actually in Holland.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: Sharon mages to save one of the girls behind the counter at her job from a punter wielding a broken bottle.
  • Groin Attack: Sharon mentions that looking at the people going to the bookies reminds her of Chris so much that she wants to put boiling hot coffee over their family jewels.
  • It Runs in the Family: Emma is pretty similar to her grandmother, such as having strong opinions on fashion.
Dorien: Emma's inherited my style, my joie de vivre. It's remarkable how like me she is.
Sharon: Fifty years and three facelifts ago.
  • Never My Fault: Although it had been her behavior which led to her being given a final written warning, Sharon blames it on Tracey for spying on her.
  • Noodle Incident: Marcus once had Dorien go out to buy a washing machine only for her to blow the cash on a romantic weekend for two in Paris.
  • One-Shot Character: Dennis Timms and Emma.
  • Speak in Unison:
    • Both Sharon and Tracey say "Granny?" when Dorien asks that Emma doesn't call her granny.
    • Both Dorien and Tracey tell Sharon to shut up when Sharon suggests that Emma and Travis make a lovely couple.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Dorien refers to the act of losing one's virginity as parking your bus.
