The Ace: All the Warriors are this to a degree, but Reiner comments on how Bertholdt was able to master the use of the Colossal Titan instantly.
Ate His Gun: Reiner puts a rifle in his mouth and comes seconds away from committing suicide. He's fortunately saved when he hears Falco training to surpass Gabi and realizes he has to live for his subordinates.
The Band Minus the Face: Marcel was supposed to lead Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie in the mission to Paradis. When Marcel is eaten by Ymir in her mindless titan form, Annie and Bertholdt considered that without Marcel, their mission had failed before it even started. Reiner eventually convinces them otherwise, and though they cut Paradis' population down by a fifth and decimate the Survey Corps; they are ultimately routed and lose two more of the Nine.
Bad People Abuse Animals: A subtle one. During the flashback to the seven warrior candidates (with only six titans to go around), Annie is dismembering a cricket.
Big Brother Instinct: Marcel's motivation to rig the selection process of the warriors that will inherit the titans, making Reiner look better so that he's chosen instead of Porco.
Child Soldiers: This episode deconstructs the concept with the Warrior Team of the past. Captain Magath points out to his superior that sending four children to tear down the Walls is a monumentally stupid idea but he is overruled. Once there the four are surprised when they run into a Mindless Titan at their campsite which leads to Marcel being eaten. Seeing their comrade eaten causes the Trio to abandon their training and flee losing them the Jaw Titan. The entire operation to take down the Walls from then on was just the three of them desperately trying to salvage something from a crap deal.
Death of a Child: As was previously shown through flashbacks Marcel meets his end when he pushes Reiner away from Ymir's mindless Titan form and is eaten instead.
Eaten Alive: Marcel's fate when the group finds Ymir in her mindless titan form.
Heroic Sacrifice: Marcel pushes Reiner out of the way of the mindless Titan's grasp only to be caught and eaten instead.
Interrupted Suicide: After reliving his memories and realizing that he will have to return to Paradis again Reiner almost shoots himself. However Falco, unknowingly saves Reiner's life when he bashes his hand in frustration outside of the house Reiner is in over not being able to surpass Gabi. Reiner seeing Falco's determination realizes he has to life for his sake as well as the rest of his subordinates.
Mugging the Monster: While inside the walls, Annie follows a suspicious individual within the Capital, believing he'll lead her to the true royal family. Unfortunately for her, said individual turns out to be Kenny Ackerman, and she barely escapes him.
No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: After Reiner tells Annie that they can't go home without the Founder and that she would most likely be eaten along with him she proceeds to beat Reiner to a bloody pulp and scream that everything that happened is his fault.
Not in This for Your Revolution: Annie reveals to be the only Warrior able to see through the Marleyan brainwashing. All she cares about is returning home alive.
Annie: "Honorary Marleyan?! Chosen warrior?! Who gives a damn?! Marley, Eldia, they can all go to hell! They're all liars, every one of them! They only ever think of themselves! And I'm the same! I need to get back home!
Not So Stoic: Annie, after Marcel is eaten and Reiner tells her they can't abort the mission, proceeds to beat Reiner senseless, scream about how Marley is filled with nothing but liars, and then tearfully says that all she wants is to go home.
Secret Other Family: Karina and Reiner are this to Reiner's father, who says that he has a legitimate Marleyan family. He wants nothing to do with them though.
Tears of Remorse: Marcel breaks down crying out of guilt while confessing that he rigged the selection, so Reiner would be chosen over his brother.
That Man Is Dead: After Annie tells Reiner that they can't complete the mission without Marcel Reiner puts her in a chock hold and tells her that Reiner is dead and he will play the part of Marcel if that is whats needed which lines up with what Porco said last episode about Reiner playing the part of his brother.
That Thing Is Not My Child!: Reiner is utterly rejected by his father, who calls him a demon and tells him to get away from him.
The Unchosen One: When they are at Paradis Marcel admits to Reiner that he was never supposed to inherit the Armored Titan, he only got it because he rigged the selection so his little brother Porco wouldn't be send to war. The realization that he didn't truly earn his spot with the Warriors causes Reiner to go through a Heroic BSoD.
Whole Episode Flashback: Most of the episode shows us events from the time when the Warrior Trio was still in training in Marley, and from their time in Paradis before and shortly after the fall of Wall Maria.
