"My Kingdom..."
The savage Mountain Lemurs have taken over most of Madagascar, and while King Julien offers asylum to the various kingdoms, it is clear the mountain lemurs are coming for them next.

Tropes:

  • Absurdly High-Stakes Game: Julien challenges Koto to a dance off with the lives of the kingdom on the line.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Julien tries to save the kingdom with a dance off, but Koto turns out to be an exceptional dancer and wins. Everyone rallies together and tries to fight off the mountain lemurs, but all they achieve is a distraction long enough for Julien to escape. The kingdom belongs to the mountain lemurs now, and Koto crowns himself ruler with Julien's crown.
  • Call-Back:
  • Cross-Referenced Titles: With the pilot episode "King Me".
  • Darkest Hour: The Mountain Lemurs invade the kingdom.
Willie: We're all gonna die, aren't we?!
    Horst: (Dejected) Yep.
  • Determinator: Mort will stop at nothing to rescue King Julien, even dig his way out of prison to fight a giant snake.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Sage rescues Clover as the invasion begins, removing her from the main plot for the entirety of the episode.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Julien tries to play to his strengths and requests a dance-off, only to find out that an intense dance regimen is part of every mountain lemurs' training.
  • Downer Ending: Despite everyone's best efforts, the kingdom falls to Koto and his army, with only Julien, Maurice and Pancho managing to escape and Clover and Sage having no idea where they are or what to do.
  • Fed to the Beast: Julien and Maurice are condemned to be eaten by a snake.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Julien challenges Koto to a dance off to save the lives of his kingdom, and only the lives of his kingdom; the terms are such that Julien dies win or lose.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em:
    • Julien refuses to abandon his people, but he is pressured into it by Maurice explaining that escaping to get help is just about the only hope the kingdom has at this point.
    • When Clover finally returns to the Kingdom, she's ready to take Koto's entire army by herself right there regardless of if she dies in the process. Sage is able to talk her down into realizing she can't accomplish anything by herself beyond a pointless sacrifice and the two agree to escape to find help.
  • Mythology Gag: One of Julien's dance moves in the dance off is the exact same robot routine he does near the end of "Madagascar".
  • No-Sell: The citizens fight back primarily with Aye-Aye musk, but Koto gets rid of it all by inhaling it in and only flinches slightly as a result.
  • Reflective Eyes: As Julien looks back on the Kingdom he has to abandon, its reflection can be clearly seen in his large, sad eyes.
  • Ship Tease: When Koto arrived at the kingdom, King Julien was seen annoyed by how Clover is excited to see Koto.
Koto: I need to talk to you!
Clover: I need to talk to you too!
King Julien: (Pushes Clover away, annoyed) He meant me! Sheesh, what is wrong with you?
  • War Refugees: The episode opens with Julien accomodating the Aye-Ayes displaced by the Mountain Lemurs.
  • Wham Episode: While the previous cliffhanger ending comes abruptly after the day is saved, here the day is completely lost and Julien is forced to flee the kingdom. This is a wham that hits so hard, the story continues in a Sequel Series; All Hail King Julien: Exiled.
