While trying to stop the Lich's latest scheme, Finn and Jake meet a wishmaster named Prismo. Finn wishes the Lich out of existence, only to find himself in an alternate universe.

Tropes

  • Age Without Youth: Since alternate universe Marceline never got turned into an ageless vampire, she stayed alive for 1,000 years but grew into an extremely elderly woman.
  • All for Nothing: Simon stopped the bomb that unleashed the wild mutations which lead to the Land of Ooo, but as he died his ice magic went wild and caused an entirely different apocalypse, a new ice age that lasted four centuries. 600 years after that was over, Finn would snatch the crown and accidentally thaw the bomb's protective ice casing, blowing it up anyway.
  • Alternative-Self Name-Change: The Farmworld version of Choose Goose is named Choose Bruce.
  • Alternate Universe: The universe that is focused on in this episode has a more realistic tone compared to the main universe.
  • The Apunkalypse: Big Destiny and his gang are stereotypical Apunkalyptic outlaws.
  • Artificial Limb: Alternate Finn has a prosthetic limb for an arm.
  • Bullying the Disabled: The Destiny Gang mock Finn's disability by calling him "One-arm".
  • The Cassandra: Old Marceline unsuccessfully attempts to warn Finn of the danger of taking the crown.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The house where Big Destiny's gang are based is curiously similar to the haunted house from "The Creeps".
    • The old man who Big Destiny's gang bully into applauding them is an alternate version of the old man who Marceline pretended to bully way back in "Henchman".
  • Convenient Misfire: Old Marceline's laser pistol conveniently turns out to no longer be powerful enough to do any damage when she fires it at Finn.
  • Cool Old Lady: Alternate Marceline, lacking the vampire agelessness of her main counterpart.
  • Doomed Hometown: Big Destiny and his gang burn down alternate Finn's farm in revenge for him standing up to them at the market.
  • Eye Scream: Alternate Finn blows his flute into the nose of one of Big Destiny's Mooks so hard that his eye pops out of his socket. He promptly wears an eyepatch after this.
  • From Bad to Worse: Finn tries to stop the Lich by wishing him out of existence, but winds up in another universe where he inadvertently causes the end of the world anyway.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Simon, who in the main universe became the Ice King, sacrificed his life to save this universe.
  • Homage: Although there aren't any one-to-one character copies, the Destiny Gang are drawn in the art style associated with the Japanese post-apocalyptic franchise Fist of the North Star.
  • In Spite of a Nail: The alternate universe includes recognizable versions of Finn, Jake, and even Choose Goose, despite the centuries of divergence.
  • Lesser of Two Evils: The diverging point of the alternate timeline is Simon's Heroic Sacrifice. It did succeed in preventing The Lich from ever existing, but the backlash of the immense amounts of magic he used to do so inadvertently trapped Earth in a new Ice Age that lasted 400 years. While harsh and at the cost of magic never coming back (for the most part), it is significantly better than what the radioactive mutations and The Lich would unleash upon the world. For one, humans didn't go extinct.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: A notable display of how different Farmworld is comes in the fact that Finn, alongside all of the other humans, bare visible sclera and noses.
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Lampshaded by Big Destiny himself when he and his gang somehow beat Alternate Finn back to the Mertens' homestead.
Big Destiny: How did I even get here, son?!
  • Our Demons Are Different:
    • When The Lich emerges from the nuke's epicenter, he's accompanied by shadowy figures with demonic forms.
    • Marceline uses her status as a (half) demon to try and scare the punks so they give her Simon's Crown back. In this alternate timeline, having demon blood doesn't protect her from aging seeing she looks every bit of her more than one thousand years. She's still quite long-lived though.
  • Sinister Shades: Big Destiny's shades perfectly show how little he cares for the weak.
  • Temporal Abortion: Upon meeting Prismo and learning of his amazing wish granting abilities, Finn wishes that the Lich "Never even existed." Turns out that the Lich was born from the byproduct of a Nuclear detonation, and undoing him also meant undoing the entire Great Mushroom War, drastically changing the course of history. Alternate Finn unfortunately ends up creating the Lich in his world anyway, and Jake has to exploit the rules of Prismo's wishes to save the world.
  • You Are Too Late: By the time that Finn and Jake get to Prismo, The Lich has already made his wish — the extinction of all life.
