Basic Trope: Using a smoke bomb to vanish from the scene.

  • Straight: Hiro is spotted, and drops a smoke bomb. He's vanished by the time the smoke clears.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Hiro uses a smoke bomb in every single scene he appears in.
    • He pulls this off in the middle of an open field, with only a tiny plume of smoke.
  • Downplayed: We can still see Hiro through the smoke as he leaves.
  • Justified:
    • Hiro is a ninja, and uses theatricality and deception as his main weapons.
    • Advertisement:
    • Hiro has Super Smoke as his powerset.
    • Hiro can teleport, but prefers not to be seen while teleporting.
  • Inverted:
    • Smoke Shield: a massive explosion occurs around Hiro, and when it clears he's still standing.
    • Hiro uses a smoke bomb as part of a Dynamic Entry.
  • Subverted:
    • Hiro drops the smoke bomb, but it was a double-bluff: He's still there, waiting to attack when the smoke clears.
    • Hiro Picks out a small pellet... and it turns out to be a regular bomb.
  • Double Subverted: It turns out to be an afterimage. Hiro is long gone.
  • Parodied:
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: No-one drops smoke bombs, not even stereotypical Ninja.
  • Enforced: It's part of the toyline.
  • Lampshaded: "You jerk! This is a no-smoking zone! Jackass ninjas..."

  • Invoked: Hiro, recently rebuilt, asks for smoke-releasing implants to fit the theme after realising he has basically become a Cyber Ninja already.
  • Exploited: Bob baits Hiro into smoking out in order to use the smoke released to alert his allies.
    • Hiro fills his
  • Defied: "Smoke pellets? Please, they'd still know where I went if I used one: namely, anywhere that isn't in the smoke."
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Hiro drops smoke bombs whenever he's startled. Being a Nervous Wreck, he does it often.
