Basic Trope: Someone turns into what their costume represents.
- Straight: A wizard casts a spell on Alice, who is dressed as a werewolf. It causes her to become an actual werewolf.
- Exaggerated: The wizard goes to a costume party and casts a spell on everyone there, causing Alice to become a werewolf, Bob to become a vampire, Charles to become a cat, Diane to become a fish-monster...
- Downplayed:
- Alice doesn't actually become a werewolf, but does start exhibiting doglike traits as a result of wearing the costume for a while.
- Emily, who is dressed as a doctor for Halloween, suddenly gets medical knowledge after a spell is cast on her.
- Justified:
- The costume is enchanted to make the wearer act like what they're dressed as.
- Alice and/or everyone at the costume party wronged the wizard in some way, and he wants to get back at them by turning them into what they're dressed as.
- This is Bruxtlsrpt's idea of Method Acting.
- Inverted: An actual werewolf is turned into a person wearing a werewolf costume.
- Subverted: Alice seems to be acting doglike as a result of wearing her costume for a while, but in reality she's just getting into character.
- Double Subverted: And then she gets cursed to become a werewolf.
- Parodied:
- Bob is disguised as the most powerful wizard. So the spell gives him magic powers. And defeats the first wizard in a Curb-Stomp Battle.
- Emilian is Disguised in Drag (either a Princess Classic or a witch). The wizard thinks Emilian is a woman and transforms him into a princess/witch. Bob and Charles fall in love with her.
- Zig-Zagged: Someones are transformed into what they're disguised, other ones aren't.
- Averted: Nobody is turned into what their costume represents.
- Enforced: "We need an interesting plot for our Halloween Episode, how about the characters getting turned into their costumes?"
- Lampshaded: ???
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: The characters use the new powers/abilities associated with their costumes to defeat the wizard that cursed them.
- Defied: ???
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed: ???
- Implied: After wearing a werewolf costume for a while, Alice is shown howling at the moon, barking/growling at people, and having a craving for raw meat. It's unknown if this is her getting into character or if she's becoming more wolflike as a result of the costume's effects.
- Deconstructed: Frank is wearing a costume that depicts a lethal injury, such as an arrow/knife through the head, or a decapitated person. Predictably, he dies.
- Reconstructed: However, Frank is also turned into a zombie or other form of The Undead as a result and therefore doesn't die.
- Played for Laughs: Alice is turned into a real werewolf, and the first thing she does is go chase a squirrel she saw going by.
- Played for Drama: The group finds out that they have until tomorrow morning to reverse their transformations, or they'll be stuck that way forever.
- Played for Horror: The transformations involve a lot of Body Horror.
