Popee the Performer is a series infamous for this. You have to see it to believe it

- A good example is when Popee's eyes bulge out in malicious glee during "Gunman". After getting shot at a couple times, he's bent on trying to pump poor Kedamono full of lead.
- The CGI appears as Unintentional Uncanny Valley to some, particularly on Popee and Papi.
- In "Limbo", when Kedamono is preparing to limbo, he starts continually seeing Popee as a devilish-looking form of himself taunting him. It's left ambiguous if Kedamono is hallucinating it or not. The ominous music doesn't help.
- The shadowy version of Popee that starts attacking him in "Dream". The Nightmare Face it has is absolutely horrifying: bloodied, realistically textured, entirely lacking eyes, and seemingly in perpetual anguish.
- The Cruel Twist Ending that Popee, Kedamono and Papi, after seemingly escaping from their Shared Dream, actually died in the real world in the process of escaping danger in said dream, is probably the most horrifying ending of all the series. It doesn't help that their bloodied corpses are smiling.
- The infamous Nightmare Face Popee makes in "Swallower" right before he swallows Kedamono alive (pictured above). The blood covering his face doesn't help. Soon afterwards, he decides to swallow the sword he was holding, impaling them both. The episode ends with Popee's dead body on the sword being spun around by the wind like some sort of messed up weather vane.
- The White Wolf is a beast that appears only twice in the series, but is pretty unnerving when it does: it's accompanied by bomber planes and the sky turning a bright red. Not very much is known about it, but if one thing is for certain, Popee, Kedamono and even Papi are absolutely terrified of it. She's even scarier when you learn via Word of God that Kedamono is her son.
- In the episode "Ghost", Kedamono accidently kills Popee after messing up a sword trick. Later that night, he tries to get it off his mind by watching TV but it then begins to static and Popee appears onscreen. The TV then begins to alternate between the program Kedamono was watching, static and Popee with Popee appearing closer and closer with each interval. Eventually, Kedamono turns around to see Popee's ghost standing next to him. He is then dragged to the same barrel where Popee was killed where it seems that Popee is about to return the favor.
- After Popee is (somehow) revived by Papi through CPR, he is still pissed about what had happened and starts chasing his father and Kedamono around with a sword. Papi then resolves this issue by first snapping Kedamono's neck and then his own.
- God can be a fairly nice and forgiving... thing... if you're nice to him. Unless you anger him. If you anger God, he will shoot Eye Beams at you, sending you flying so fast you can make a stone tower fall like a cheap toy if you hit it.
- God's appearance in general is quite unnerving, as he's an unexplained mysterious giant stone head that shows no emotion. Also, every time he opens his eyes, the camera is positioned so that he's looking right at you. Especially creepy when it's the Death Glare.
- Papi is a very odd character, as he can apparently swallow you whole and glows just like the sun when he Turns Red, and gives an intimidating Death Glare when he is mad. Also, he's so good at hypnotism he can hypnotize you into thinking you are him, even this when he's reduced to a skeleton.
- "Escape Show" shows us exactly why you should never get between Kedamono and his chicken. Alien promises Kedamono chicken if he injects Popee with a syringe. However, after the deed is done, he blasts it anyway to be a dick. Cue Kedamono's mask gradually changing from an annoyed face to angrier expressions until it becomes a twisted and warped demon face. Kedamono then proceeds to attack Alien which in the process makes the spaceship explode. It is also implied that Kedamono eats Alien at the end of the episode.
- In "Dark Side", Papi manages to cut the sun in half while chopping a watermelon, making half of the circus to go dark. While Kedamono uses the new dark area to wash his face without the others seeing, Popee uses it for darker purposes. When Popee first exits the dark side, he is wheeling out a cart that has a mysterious cooked meat on it. Papi finds it delicious while Kedamono instead inspects it with skepticism. He then uses a flashlight to shine into the dark side where he sees Popee chopping up Paola. The way the scene is shot makes it look like something straight out of a horror film.
- In "Karate Show", Frog gets eaten alive by Popee for biting him and eating Kedamono's birthday cake. This results in Popee getting possessed by Frog and he proceeds to chase Kedamono around with Mind-Control Eyes with the intention of eating him. While this could be considered tame compared to the other examples, it's still pretty freaky.
