Nightmare Fuel / Bruce Almighty

  • The idea of an ordinary guy being giving near-infinite power over everything is pretty scary. Sure his girlfriend got to have some extremely "pleasurable" sex, but she's pretty much the only mortal that benefited from it. Thousands of people were killed by the natural disasters Bruce accidentally caused, and they're only Bruce's accidental victims. He gave the gang of thugs a rough time in revenge for what they did (and in the script he originally beat them all up with an army of clones). He got a group of reporters busted for drug possession just because they lightly made fun of him. Evan got the worst of it. For the heinous crime of being a better reporter than Bruce, he was embarrassed on live TV, he lost his job, and in one of the deleted scenes, set on fire! TWICE! And the face Bruce makes before he sets Evan on fire makes the seven finger trick look pleasant. His face is not in Large Ham mode, he looks unhinged and demonic.
    • Of course, while this all seems bad, the Nightmare Fuel gets even worse when you consider this wasn't even the limit of what Bruce was capable of. If someone had, say, accidentally bumped his new car, he could have decided that an eternity in Hell would be a suitable punishment. Sweet dreams.
    • And in a moment of desperation, Bruce ignores God's warning not to override free will and tries to force Grace to love him when she's made it clear they're over. It doesn't work, since Bruce isn't allowed to alter free will, but it's still a terrifying revelation that Bruce is only as benevolent as his limitations.
  • The prayers. Forget just one psychotic guy with omnipotence. Try the population of an entire city with access to said guy's omnipotence. Annoy a co-worker? Better hope they're not a praying sort of person.
    • Some of the prayer post-it props went up for sale and can actually be read online. They include such gems as "Please don't let my butt look big in this", "Please let me lose my virginity before I'm 18" and... "Please let those corporate bastards burn in Hell". Keep in mind, Bruce answered "YES" to most of these.
  • When God is meeting with Bruce for the first time and Bruce starts actually getting on his nerves, God stops playing around by inflicting some Body Horror on him, in the form of some extra fingers, and this is after he's already thrown Bruce around the room with the filing cabinet. When God subsequently slips into Tranquil Fury, Bruce is actually terrified upon realizing that he's been pulling Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu? on a real, omnipotent God, and God is not happy with him.
God: You've been doing a lot of complaining about me, Bruce. And quite frankly, I'm tired of it.
Bruce: Wait. Don't come near me. Seriously. When I'm backed into a corner, I'm like a wild animal. I don't want to hurt you, but I will out of instinct.
God: You haven't won a fight since grade five, and that was against a girl.
Bruce: Yeah, but she was huge. She had been held back.
God: And the sun was in your eyes. Oh, there you go.
  • Bruce drops to his knees in despair in pouring rain while on a road, and is suddenly bathed in white light...which turns out to be a large truck heading straight for him! The screen fades to white just before impact.
