The Pope of Greenwich Village is a 1984 Black Comedy crime film starring Mickey Rourke, Eric Roberts, Daryl Hannah and Geraldine Page in one of the shortest Oscar-nominated performances. • Insane Troll Logic: Virtually everything that Paulie says. There is no justification he won't use, and he is shameless about it.
  • Robbing the Mob Bank: Desperate for money, Charlie and Paulie find a retired safecracker named Barney and crack open a safe. Too bad it belonged to Bed Bug Eddie's company and he had revenge on his mind.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: The movie opens with Charlie getting dressed for work and shows off his wardrobe of suits. Even though he loses his job in the beginning of the movie, he wears a suit every day. At one point him and his friends play stickball in their suits.
  • The Caper: Charlie and Paulie decide to rob a safe, and team up with a
  • Trapped by Gambling Debts: Charlie alludes to being this. He owes not one Loan Shark, but two. When coming out of a horse betting parlor, he admits he spends too much money there. When he wins $20,000 Paulie sees this as a reprieve.
  • The Mafia: Bed Bug Eddie and Uncle Pete are implied to be part of it.
  • The Power of Family: Why Charlie keeps Paulie around, even though everyone tells Charlie he's bad news. Diane leaves him over it.
