Calamitous Intervention is an Amphibia/The Owl House crossover fanfic written by spiritgamer102, co-written by RobTheWrecker and honorable mention to ChampionElCid[1], author of The Owl and The Frog; that posits what would happen if Anne Boonchuy and Luz Noceda switched places as they were about to head to the respective worlds of their two shows. Anne ends up on the Boiling Isles and Luz is the one who gets sent to Amphibia. See how they adapt and how canon events diverge vastly.

The chapters alternate between each girl's POV, each one adapting episodes of both shows, and diverging as needed. Read it on AO3 here and on Fanfiction.net here.

This work provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Anne taps into the Blue Gem's power earlier than she did in the show. Only slightly, but still.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The main Point of Divergence occurs when at the same time, on opposite sides of the country, Luz and Anne take the first steps of the Hero's Journey, which sets them each on a different path.
  • *Cough* Snark *Cough*: When Anne first arrives to the Owl House, and Eda snaps the candles on , she coughs the word "showoff" like the kid at the Thai temple and Polly's romcom-learned fluency.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Just like Luz, this is Anne's reaction upon first seeing King; more specifically, she squeals, runs over to him, picks him up, and starts cooing over him.
  • Crossover Power Acquisition: Speaking of which, The swap causes Luz to also have access to the Calamity energy.
  • Dramatic Irony: The reason Anne stays in the Demon Realm at the end of Chapter One is to try to find Sasha and Marcy. She doesn't realize it yet, but as Chapter Two reveals, Sasha still ended up in Toad Tower, and Marcy can be reasonably assumed to have made it to Newtopia.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Sasha takes Anne out of school earlier, and Marcy discovers the Calamity Box earlier than in canon. Also, Anne opens the Box just as Luz is about to follow Owlbert through Eda's Portal Door. The resulting wave of Calamity Gem energy throws them both off course and each are isekai'd into the wrong worlds.
  • Genre Savvy: Anne, unlike Luz, doesn't fall for Adegast's whole quest scam, and after asking and not getting anything of note about her friends, she and King book it. Which leads to him just skipping to the part where he tries to eat them.
  • In Spite of a Nail:
    • Luz finds the baby Coastal Killapillar that became Domino II in Canon, and she becomes the Stringbean of this story.
    • The Plantars still become addicted to a modern technology; in this case, a video game console not unlike the Nintendo Switch that Luz had in her bag intending to bring it to camp with her. And Hop Pop still drains the battery of said device.
    • Amity still develops a crush on the Token Human of the cast; in this case, Anne.
  • Role Swap AU: A crossover variant. Anne and Luz get sent to the opposite worlds of their journeys, and experience them as such.
  • That Was Not a Dream: Upon awakening on their first respective full days in their new homes, Anne sighs resigned, "Well I guess this is my life now." whereas Luz shouts triumphantly "It wasn't a dream!"
  • Trappedin Another World: As is the case with both sources. Unlike canon, however, the Calamity Trio open the Box at the exact time Luz is about to enter the Demon Realm, which results in her and Anne accidentally swapping places in between both dimensions. How this will affect things going forward will have to wait and see. But let's just say things are currently getting interesting.
