Fanfic / Burr: An American Musical

Go To

Burr: An American Musical exists in the world of savrenim's fanfiction it feels more like a memory, which is fanfiction of the real-life musical over at Hamilton. It‘s based on chapters 28–35 of it feels more like a memory long after everyone in the fic had died and the events in the fic became historical ones In-Universe. In-Universe, Burr: An American Musical is a hit musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Out of universe, it’s an incomplete script with some audio recordings of how the songs are supposed to go. It can be found in chapters 2 and 3 of musical, round 3: chapters 1 and 4 have relevant Word of God about the musical and about events in it feels more like a memory that this musical was based off of.

Because it can barely be discussed without spoiling chapters 28–35 of it feels more like a memory, every page about it leaves spoilers up to chapter 35 of it feels more like a memory unspoilered, so it's recommended you read up to those chapters before browsing this fic's trope pages.

Burr: An American Musical contains examples of:

  • all lowercase letters: Not the musical itself, but the work that contains it on the Archive of Our Own is titled "musical, round 3" and qualifies for this trope.
  • All Musicals Are Adaptations: In-Universe, it’s a musical adaptation of historical events. Out of universe, it’s a musical adaptation of the events of chapter 28–35 of the fanfiction it feels more like a memory.
  • All There in the Manual: Includes canon details that didn’t make it to it feels more like a memory: how people in 21st century of this timeline interpret the events of the life Aaron lived in this timeline, the musicals’ production and reception, the details of Jefferson’s impeachment trial, and other details relevant to the characters and events of ifmlam's third timeline.
  • American Title: An In-Universe musical that also has a version available to read in reality is titled Burr: An American Musical. It focuses on Aaron's treason trial and the impeachment of Thomas Jefferson, an injustice followed by making it just, and what are actual events from the history of the United States of America In-Universe. Its cast for the principal characters consist of the same people from real Hamilton, all of whom are American citizens, and the American Lin-Manuel Miranda still writes it. It fulfills all three variants of the usage of an American Title: idealistic, subversive and cynical, and "America is the place of origin of this" (American history, by American creators).
  • Based on a True Story: It’s based on the In-Universe historical events of Aaron Burr’s treason trial for being the Seer in wartime without turning himself in to the US government, and the fallout after the trial.
  • Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Not In-Universe, since In-Universe it’s historical fact that Aaron Burr was the Seer, but out of universe? Absolutely.
  • Different World, Different Movies: This is the third timeline of it feels more like a memory's equivalent to the real-life Hamilton musical, with different events depicted since the In-Universe historical events differ from those in real life. This timeline also has an equivalent to the real-life Hamilton fanfic written by savrenim titled it feels more like a memory: a Burr: An American Musical fanfic written by savrenim titled if there's a reason. Again, the fic's events are different because what happened in the third timeline, and thus what the musical's events are, are different from what happened in real life.
  • Historical Domain Character: Aaron Burr, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, Maria Reynolds, Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, Dolley Madison, Justice John Marshall, the Marquis de Lafayette, and Maria Reynolds’ daughter Susan. They're historical figures both In-Universe and out of universe.
  • Historical Domain Superperson: Aaron Burr, Seer.
  • Rule of Cute: The entire point of Susan’s presence in the musical: she’s there “for the purpose of sometimes looking really really cute and adorable on stage with wide eyes holding Renée [Elise Goldsberry, who plays Maria Reynolds]'s hand while singing her parts.”
  • Script Fic: A script of the In-Universe musical.
  • Seers: Aaron Burr.
  • Show Within a Show: This musical exists within the universe of the fanfiction it feels more like a memory.
  • A True Story in My Universe: The events in the third timeline it feels more like a memory, which aren’t historical events in real life (or are at least severely changed up Alternate History versions of real life historical events), became historical events that this musical tries to portray accurately In-Universe.
