Being a Ship Tease-laden franchise is not without any Flame War on each of their respective shippers (which makes the "love" on Love Live! more ironic).
Love Live!
- Both NozoEli (Garden of Glass) & UmiEli's (Storm in Lover) fans: even though the first anime series has ended, both shippers are still arguing
against each other onabout which of the two girls (Nozomi and Umi) that Eli would finally end up with. - In a minor extent, fans also debate on whether Nico or Tsubasa (thanks to that one brief moment in The School Idol Movie) should be the perfect girlfriend for Maki.
Love Live! Sunshine!!
- The spin-off sequel also became a massive offender for this trope:
- ChikaYou shippers commonly have this reaction against Riko, mainly because the show itself gives ChikaRiko a lot of screen time at You's expense, which culminates to a point in Episode 10 with Riko's love confession. This could probably get worse since Riko and Yoshiko had many moments since the 2nd season's 5th episode, and actually held hands in the 2nd season's 11th episode, which effectively rendered the YouHane, YoshiMaru, and even ChikaRiko ships entirely pointless. And in the end, one more curveball is thrown with a heavy implication of RikoYou!
- Fortunately for Riko, the majority of shippers in the fandom have focused their ire on the writers for what they perceive as pandering to as many different ships as possible, rather than on Riko herself. Judging from fanwork on Twitter and Pixiv, Riko has become a Launcher of a Thousand Ships more than anything else.
- After the YoshiMaru ship wins the "Good Friends Poll" for the Love Live! School Idol Festival game, many of the YohaRiri fans' reactions to their victory are rather...unpleasant.
