Supercell is a Finnish mobile game developer founded in 2010 in Helsinki. They're known mainly for three games: Clash of Clans, its Spin-Off Clash Royale and Brawl Stars.

However, they didn't start with mobile games. Instead, their first game was a short lived browser MMO called gunshine.net, which to this day still displays a farewell message.

They tried entering the mobile market with Battle Buddies, which too didn't last long. Their first big hit was Hay Day in 2012, which was then quickly overshadowed by Clash of Clans a couple of months later. These big hits were later followed up with even more big hits like Boom Beach, Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. Not all of their games were as lucky though...

Supercell themselves have stated that they strive for "games that will be played for years to come", and if that criteria isn't met during the game's test launch period, it will be discontinued. This period usually lasts for a few months, after which the game's discontinuation is to be expected sooner or later. However, this isn't always the case, as proven by Brawl Stars, which spent a whole year and a half in beta test before being launched globally.

As of August 2021, Supercell has released 5 games globally:

In addition, the following game is due to come out for Global Release by the end of May:

  • ''Squad Busters”

Tropes applying to the company/to their games in general:

  • The Perfectionist: The reason all of their games are big hits is literally because, when they see that a game isn't doing well and their attempts to revive interest aren't working, they decide to discontinue it.
  • Play Every Day: A staple of their games. There are Boom Beach, Hay Day and Clash of Clans and even the recente Everdale, which encourage you to play to maximize your resources, and then there's Clash Royale and Brawl Stars which simply offer you a login bonus.
  • Quality over Quantity: Their believe that having less, but more replayable games is better than having many games with little replayability.
