Andrew Taylor Weir (born June 16, 1972 in Davis, California) is an American Science Fiction writer whose debut novel, The Martian, was adapted into a hit movie by Ridley Scott and earned him the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2016.
In addition to novels and short stories, he has also written a couple of Web Comics. His breakout work was the short story "The Egg", which was self-published in 2009, and became a sleeper hit.
Common elements of Weir's stories include lots of research on display, use of First-Person Smartass protagonists, and a generally hopeful, optimistic tone (albeit after lots of hard work and sacrifice).
