Horizon Zero Dawn is a tie-in series of graphic novels to the video game of the same name published by Titan Publishing Group.

Set in a world roaming with machines and a post pastoral humanity, follow Aloy and her friends as they hunt deadly machines and manage the complicated politics of Meridian and beyond.

  • The Sunhawk (2020) — Without Aloy, newly minted Sunhawk Talanah learns of a new, more deadly breed of machine that she has to hunt donw, making new friends and enemies along the way.
  • Liberation (2021) — As Aloy and Erend are on the hunt for the accomplices of Oseram terrorist Dervahl, Erend reminisces on her sister Ersa and and her contributions for the fall of the Mad Sun-King.

Not to be confused with the unrelated comic series Horizon.

This comic contains examples of the following tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: While Aloy appears in both stories, the stories focus more on her allies or other characters. The Sunhawk focuses on Talanah, while most of Liberation focuses on Ersa and Avad's coup against the Mad Sun-King Jiran.
  • And Then What?: A part of Talanah's arc is that now that she had become the new Sunhawk and killed the machines that killed so many lodgers, she has no real goal moving forward.
  • Badass Boast: After Ersa manages to survive her time in the Sunring, she proclaims...
Ersa: Jiran! Is this the best the Sundom has to offer?
  • Guile Hero: Ersa manages to survive her time in the Sun Ring against a Ravager unarmed by tricking it into attacking a Carja archer using nothing but a rock. She then uses it as a stepladder, shoves the archer off of the podium he was standing on, stealing his bow and killing the machine with it.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Its revealed that Ersa was originally captured by the Mad Sun-King because she decided to stall them while her men (and brother) escaped, contributing to his Guilt Complex he has towards her.
Erend: Killed or captured for blood sacrifice, I didn't know. All because she had to save me.
Aloy: I'm sure she never regretted it.
Erend: Ersa wasn't one for regret.
  • Killer Robot: The newer breed of machines the Hunter's Lodge was commissioned to end are newer, more powerful breeds of more common machines called Apex-machines; creations of HEPHAESTUS made specifically to adapt and kill humans.
  • The Last Straw: While Avad was always against his father's killings, it's after his father has his older brother Kadaman killed — after Avad wanted him to talk sense in their father, no less — does he decide to leave and join Ersa's resistance directly.
  • Prisoner's Work: While Ersa manages to impress Jiran enough not to keep her in the Sun-Ring, instead he keeps her as a slave to clean out the boar's pen of its excrement with nothing but her hands.
  • Raptor Attack: Clawstriders are a raptor-esq machine with frills resembling feathers on its head. While it appears in the sequel, this is the first time it appears in the franchise.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: When Erend overheard Dervahl's plan to kill Avad and the rest of his family when his usefulness runs its course, Ersa tries to kill him and has his cohorts Asera and Korl arrested before it ever comes to that, acting cruely to prevent their plan from being sabotaged.
