The Triplet Queens
General
- Only One Name: Each triplet is only referred to by their given name.
- Curtains Match the Windows: All three sisters have black hair and black eyes.
Mirabella
- Brainy Brunette: Has black hair and is quite smart.
- Elemental Powers: As an elemental, she can command various elements:
- Making a Splash: Her weakest element, but she's experienced enough with it to save a drowning boat.
- Playingwith Fire: Her second-best element.
- Shock and Awe: A lightning specialist, her best element.
Katharine
- Brainy Brunette: Is quite smart.
- Covered in Scars: She has a lot of scars, a side effect of the various poison-resistance training that she was subjected to growing up.
- Inept Mage: She's a poisoner who can't eat anything tainted without becoming sick.
- Tiny Tyrannical Girl: She's the shortest of the triplets and, after being possessed by past Queens who were thrown into the Breccia Domain, becomes the most proactive of the sisters once the Ascension Year begins.
- Twin Switch: She was switched with Arsinoe. Katharine is the naturalist Queen, not the poisoner one.
Arsinoe
- Hates Wearing Dresses: Arsinoe can't stand wearing skirts or dresses.
- Inept Mage: Subverted. She's introduced as a naturalist that can't grow plants or control animals. It isn't until she eats three poisoned candies and survives does she realizes that she's actually a poisoner, and a pretty gifted one at that.
- Twin Switch: She was switched with Katharine.
The Black Council
Natalia Arron
- Iron Lady: As head of the Black Council and the Arron family, Natalia is stoic and very focused on keeping the throne.
The Temple

- Fiery Redhead: Has red hair and is the most aggressive of the priestesses.
Wolf Spring
Juillenne "Jules" Milone
- The Ace: Jules is a gifted naturalist, punctuated by the fact that her familiar is a mountain lion.
