Needless to say, she's extremely creative and imaginative, excellent at thinking outside the box, which is reflected in her style of playing.

* ManipulativeBitch: A rare non-villain example. Kaori will frequently resort to emotional manipulation, coercion, and dishonesty in order to get her way. PlayedForLaughs at times such as her CrocodileTears in Episode 5, implied to have been rehearsed with the kids she was playing with.

* NiceGirl: She's usually very sweet, polite and friendly, and a ray of sunshine despite her very short temper and brashness.

* AmbiguousDisorder: While Kousei's depression is often highlighted, it's also implied on several occasions that Kousei's close friends are concerned that he may be suicidal. The several instances of him passing out after starving himself, because he was too focused on practising his music, are reacted to a lot more severely to by the rest of the cast than he himself does.

* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Tsubaki's Tomboy. She plays violin, has long hair and adores cute things, while Tsubaki plays baseball, has short hair and has a more tomboyish attitude (though Kaori does have her violent outbursts too).

* IllGirl: Despite being so energetic, it's usually hinted and eventually confirmed that Kaori actually has poor health, such as when she collapses after her performance and when a lot of pills can be seen in her bag. It's explained that Kaori will suffer from loss of motor skills, losing control of her arms and legs, rendering them useless and seizures that can result in heart failure.

* CryCute: This wild and aggressive girl looks adorable every time she cries, whether the moment is heartwarming or depressing.

* CryCute: The first time we realize she really did love her son is when she broke down in tears after [[spoiler:Kousei finally called her out on her abuse and wished her to die, which made Saki realize she went too far]].

* CryCute: The effort she is making for her school festival presentation starts bearing her down to the point of tears, though she is more anguished at the fact that she cannot rely on her brother and that if she doesn't succeed, he will just leave her behind altogether. She then starts realizing that she has both Hiroko and Kousei supporting her, and that whatever she's not getting from Takeshi, she's getting from them ''in droves''.

* CryCute: They are moved to tears by Nagi's performance and they don't hesitate in congratulating her backstage.

* TheAce: She's beautiful, talented, popular, is a skilled pianist, gets excellent grades and can cook. And, if her various awards and pictures during the flashback to when she first saw Kousei play is any indication, she was this UpToEleven with how many activities she excelled at before setting her passion on the piano.

* LastLousyPoint: For a young man who is capable of bringing such beautiful sounds into the world, Kousei has very low self-esteem and is quite gullible.

* LastLousyPoint: She tutors Emi to the best of her capacity, but even she recognizes that the girl's motivation started to take a dive when Kousei Arima retired, leaving them without Emi's peer and rival and causing the pupil to have difficulty ranking in competition. Ms. Ochiai is also annoyed that she has to admit this aspect to Mr. Takaniyagi, out of all people.

* ManicPixieDreamGirl: As Kousei explains, Kaori is the one who filled his world with colors. Then it's played for drama very quickly. It's revealed that this was planned by Kaori because as it turns out, [[spoiler: just like Takeshi, Nagi, and Emi, Kaori was also moved by Kousei's music and it brought colors into her world and when Kousei stopped playing music, she dropped piano and picked up the violin just to try and help him get back on his feet.]]

* AmbiguousSituation: She argues that she hates music because it has done nothing more than to drive a wedge between her and Kousei, especially considering that she has nothing to contribute in this respect... but she ''absolutely'' loves watching him play.

* BigSisterInstinct: Claims to be a big sister figure to Kousei as she always checks up on him and his health. Subverted as it is later revealed that she is very much in love Kousei, but is oblivious to her own feelings.

* ChildhoodFriends: Has been friends with Kousei and Watari since childhood.

* FriendlyEnemy: Kaori ''is'' her friend, and a dear one for that matter... but she's taking Kousei away from her. Tsubaki's inner turmoil is what drives most of her plot in the story.

* GreenEyedMonster: Tsubaki becomes greatly jealous of Kaori's closeness to Kousei and her ability to help him get back on his feet, when Tsubaki could never do anything for him.

* NiceGirl: Despite her tomboyish and a bit ungraceful attitude, Tsubaki is a caring, kind, polite and friendly girl. Don't make her angry, however, as she still is short-tempered just as Kaori.

* FourIsDeath: She was born on July 4th and during her first preformance, she was the fourth to preform. [[spoiler: She dies in the end.]]

* NiceGuy: He's [[ByronicHero intensely introspective]] and [[TheCynic nihilistic]], but he's really conscious of how he acts with others and does care for his friends.

* NiceGirl: She's usually very sweet, polite and friendly.

* NiceGirl: Despite her tomboyish and a bit ungraceful attitude, she's still kind, polite and friendly, but don't make her angry.

* NotSoDifferent: From Miike. They have the exact same reaction to Nagi and Kousei's piano duet; that is, throwing a hissy fit.

** Just like Takeshi and Miike, Nagi is initially a stickler for following the music sheet to the point, though her contact with Kousei changed this view on her completely.
** Nagi states that she is in a very similar situation to Kousei's: they are LockedOutOfTheLoop in terms of people they care about, and the prospect of playing the piano bears on them both, while noticing that Kousei is trembling nervously moments before they go on stage.

** From Takeshi and Emi, as at some point in their lives, the three of them even start sneaking into Kousei's performances just for the sake of hearing him play. He even has ''the exact same reaction'' as Takeshi when he learns about Nagi's friendship with Kousei, and attends his performances incognito just like Emi did.
** From Kousei, who is shown to have began playing music ''for'' his own mother too.

* NotSoDifferent: They are both musically instructed at school, so they are well aware and awed at the strides that Nagi makes while playing live on stage. Satsuki even points out weeks before at school that she's starting to notice that Nagi is getting better at the piano.
