* OffModel[=/=]EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: Kusuha is a little (in)famous for having a "weird" profile portrait in ''Alpha''. While everyone else in-game more or less resembles their character design (shown on this page), Kusuha's "profile" portrait used during the intermission story sections features a neck that's a little long, eyes a little too far apart, and the rendering on the eyes themselves look funny (seen [[http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v157/stalkeryik/Super%20Robot%20Wars/Mission%201/SS-20090829-170412.png here]]). Even stranger is the fact her small unit portrait is fine -- it's her profile that's astoundingly odd. Corrected when ''Original Generation'' is released, becoming more on-model in successive installments.

* BladeOnAStick: [=KoRyuOh=]'s "Sonic Javelin"; however, the weapon's a misleading name as it resembles a Chinese ''guan dao'' than an actual javelin.

** Of a "physical" attribute: in ''Alpha'', her bustline is admittedly ample, but not ridiculous. As the series progresses, it starts to grow ever bigger and she gets new outfits to accentuate it. This becomes a sore spot -- some players find it cute, while others deem it unnecessary, demeaning and distracting for a character who is otherwise treated with seriousness, especially in the sequels.
** Her health drinks have also gotten this treatment, though this is fed in part by the fandom: in ''Original Generation'', the concoction comes up as being disgusting and the crew finds ways to avoid drinking it. Come ''Alpha 3'' and the ''Original Generation'' sequels, it's treated as the most vile element in the universe, able to make men like [[Anime/GaoGaiGar Guy Shishioh]] and Sanger Zonvolt cringe in terror.

One of the recurring heroes in ''Alpha'' (actually debuting in ''Shin'' and improved in the ''Alpha'' series with a side-stop in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotSpirits'' along the way), Ryusei's the prime example of the AscendedFanboy, especially regarding video games and and HumongousMecha (particularly super robots), and is apparently [[ChasteHero uninterested in human girls, but swoons over girly-looking giant robots]]; he also has a sickly mother. His story, especially told in ''Original Generation'', revolves around getting drafted into a super robot team because he's the champion (runner-up in the AnimatedAdaptation ''Divine Wars'') of a competitive MechaGame "Burning PT", as [[IKnowMortalKombat the robots used by the military have similar controls to the game]]. There, he learns RealLife wars are completely different matters compared to video games. He's joined by fellow pilots [[TheLancer Raidese F. Branstein]] and [[TheChick Aya Kobayashi]] and becomes the core member of the SRX Team.\\\

* TriangRelations: "Type 7" in ''Shin'' between [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Amuro Ray]] (A), Aya (B) and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Chen Agi]] (C). In a Space Route scenario, Amuro and Aya compliment each other on how swift they are in combat, while Chen glares at the two of them from hiding. In another Space Route scenario, Chen is pleasantly surprised when Amuro invites her to accompany him to the city.

* YoungestChildWins
** Variation: her Psychodriver powers are often stated to be stronger than Aya's. The fact Mai's part of the SRX Team in order to trigger the HTB Cannon makes it more obvious.

** {{Averted}} in ''Alpha'' as Kusuha (being the protagonist) is usually the one who wears the pants in the relationship with Bullet, being the one bailing him out when he's in trouble, but played straight in ''Original Generation'' with Bullet rescuing her often. However, the ''Second Original Generation'' subverts it a la ''Alpha'' thanks in no small part to the ''Alpha 2'' storyline prominently taking the stage.

* CutsceneIncompetence
** In ''Original Generation'', when Ingram kidnaps her.
** This is particularly galling for ''Alpha'' players since "fight four-on-one" is less "a time to panic and get captured" and more "a typical day at work and an often-used strategy for farming experience" for ''Alpha''-verse Kusuha.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS
** His surname causes a bit of debate -- "Jaeger" is sometimes proposed in place of "Jaggar".
** A particularly odd example for his mecha: in the localization of ''Original Generation 2'', Creator/{{Atlus}} rendered the Laz Angriff's name as "Rathgrith", the name of the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars64'' original mecha the Laz Angriff [[{{Expy}} is based on]]. MeaningfulName ensues as Rathgrith is based on same-named {{Valkyrie|s}} in Myth/NorseMythology; in ''Original Generation'', the Laz Angriff is "Type-34" of the [[AMechByAnyOtherName "Valkyrie" series of mecha]] (non-related to the "Valkyries" in ''Anime/{{Macross}}'')

* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Virtually no one uses Carla's full name in ''Original Generation''. The only one who ever does is [[spoiler: [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Van Vat Tran]] (but only in the Japanese version), right before his HeroicSacrifice when he orders Yuuki and Carla to join up with the ''Hagane'' and ''Hiryu Custom'']].

* TalkingToHerself: Mai also voices [[Characters/MasouKishin Shiro]], one of Masaki's {{Familiar}}s. Taken to its logical conclusion in a save-quit intermission of ''Original Generations'' -- Shiro talks with Mai (as Levi), who says the latter should start adding a "Nyan~" VerbalTic. She does, but performs miserably.

* HotScientist
** Professor Anzai is the world's foremost expert in ancient relics and is famous for advancing the notion the [[AncientAstronauts Mu and Atlantean cultures are founded by aliens]] in ''Shin''. When rescued by the protagonists, they note Eri is such a stunning beauty even Professor Daimonji's jaw drops.
** Carries into ''Original Generation 2'': upon meeting her, Irmgard asks for her phone number, but Eri isn't aware of the implication and hands him her office number.

* {{Foil}}: To Kusuha -- contrast Carla's [[ShesGotLegs shapely legs]], StoneWall attributes, and [[FieryRedHead out-going persona]] against Kusuha's [[BuxomIsBetter ample buxom]], [[LongRangeFighter long-ranged offense]], and [[ShyBlueHairedGirl demure attitude]].

* MsFanservice: [[InvokedTrope Tries to be this]], but gets {{overshadowed by|Awesome}} [[MsFanservice other girls]]. Her [[CuteBruiser cute appearance]], [[TheTease flirty demeanor]] and [[ZettaiRyouiki stocking clad]] [[ShesGotLegs legs]] qualify; hell, one of her Gespenst Kick quotes in the in the Gespenst MK II Type-S, "美脚で勝負!"[[note]]"I challenge you with my sexy legs!"[[/note]], {{Lampshades}} it.

* FightingWithChucks: [=KoRyuOh=]'s "Random Spike"

* WakeUpCallBoss: In ''Original Generation'', his R-Gun Rivale's HP is at a whopping '''''160,000''''' with HP Regen (M)[[note]]Regenerates 20% overall HP per turn.[[/note]] complete with Warp Field which halves your damage output. In a game where dealing ''3500-5500'' damage is generally considered endgame level and the previously highest enemy HP was ''65,000'', many first-timers were floored when they saw that his HP is recorded at "?????" even after scanning or the first fight. This led to many of them quitting outright at the DifficultySpike or hastily equipping the Energy Takers, Energy Drain and Armour Breakers weapons along with utilising the "Valor" Spirit command probably for the first time. The HP Regen ability has also driven many players to kill him in the span of a single turn with a well-placed formation for the first time.

** DarkskinnedRedhead: The only character of Latin American descent in ''Original Generation''

* ChineseGirl: Subverted; has the look and the name, but [[AllThereInTheManual according to the databook]], she's Korean.

** After smacking around numerous villains in a Space Route scenario in ''Shin'', the party is impressed at the SRX's abilities, but Amuro notes Aya is looking a bit pale from all the power she has to expel to keep the SRX together. [[Manga/GetterRobo Hayato Jin]] agrees to give them a day off; Aya later confesses to Amuro she is in fact an "Esper", apologizing for having mislead him earlier. She's not entirely thrilled with her powers, [[NotSoDifferent which Amuro can relate]].

Scouted by the Divine Crusaders as a Burning PT gamer with the potential of becoming an Armored Module pilot, Ryoto lacked the willingness to kill and the mindset the position demands. Not willing to chalk him up as a complete loss, they sortie him against the ''Hagane'' battleship and its defenders, when in the middle of combat, the engine to his "Lion F" fails (much to his surprise as he has an affinity with machines and personally maintains his Armored Module). He's captured and taken aboard the ''Hagane'' when his Lion that is to follow suddenly detonates; fortunately, it isn't hauled into the hangar[[note]]In the Divine Wars animé, that is. In the games, if he isn't shot down completely (which is a fail condition in the PS2 re-release), the Lion F is hauled in after the crash, and Robert manages to find the bomb after the Hagane crew suspect that possibility and take it out before it exploded.[[/note]].

* ParentalAbandonment: Yukiko's still around, but [[spoiler:his father was a police officer killed during duty]].

* MommasBoy: Played with; Ryusei adores his mother [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationOthersAndWalkingSpoilers Yukiko Date]], the one thing ranking higher than HumongousMecha and TrueCompanionship on his list of priorities. In fact, he was going to enter the military to pay off her medical bills rather than go to college ([[FallingIntoTheCockpit though he gets "drafted", anyways]]). Subverted as Yukiko isn't in control of his life, though he still occasionally pays a visit to her. However, played straight when [[spoiler:any mention about Yukiko getting experimented in her younger years at a Psychodriver lab or utter a death threat against her]] - Ryusei will hastily defend his mother.
