* AwesomeMccoolName: Zigzagged. Tsurugi does have a pretty cool name, as it is a type of sword. However, at the end of the day, a sword is just a weapon, as Touma only sees Tsurugi as his weapon.

* [[IllGirl Ill Boy]]: He is anything but athletic and has very poor health. He seems to get better over the course of the story though.

* LonelyRichKid: His loneliness has nothing to do with his money though. It's mostly because he's a socially awkward [[IllGirl Ill Boy]] who can't go out much.

* CryCute: Gets a moment of this when he becomes more emotional after [[spoiler:[[OOCIsSeriousBusiness being defeated by Tsubaki]]]].

* CryCute: When [[spoiler:his younger self and Mahiru traverse Touma's mind, he does this]].

* NiceHat: His top hat. It's almost as tall as he is.

* NiceHat: He's rarely ever seen without one.

* RousingSpeech: Gives an epic one to [[spoiler:Lawless. It ''works.'']]

* SarcasticDevotee: To Tsubaki - he's often mad at him and is not above giving him a regular dose of BrutalHonesty, but he's so loyal to him he even sacrificed his friendship with Mahiru for his sake.

* WalkingSpoiler: It's ''very'' hard to talk about his role in the story without giving away that he is a vampire and Tsubaki's subclass.

* HowDoIShotWeb: It takes him awhile to figure out how to summon and use his Lead after he gets it, let alone what exactly to do with it in the first place.

* CryingWolf: People don't take his warnings of the vampires seriously enough because he's known as a joker.

* WalkingSpoiler: It's very hard to talk about his role in the story without giving away that he is a vampire and Tsubaki's subclass.

* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: With Mahiru at times. Whenever he says or does something silly Mahiru is likely to hit him for it.

* FakeMemories: He inflicted them on Mahiru to make him think they were childhood friends.

* SkunkStripe: There is a streak of white in his black hair.

* BackstoryInvader: Mahiru believes he has been best friends with Sakuya since they were kids. In reality he has known him for only a year, and Sakuya is a vampire who created these fake memories to fit in with Mahiru and his other ChildhoodFriends. Mahiru remembers their real first meeting after the truth comes out.

* CassandraTruth: While the others (including Mahiru at the beginning) think he's just making stuff up, his warnings about the vampires are very real. Since he's one himself, he definitely knows what he's talking about and doesn't take it well when Mahiru ignores all his warnings.

* StepfordSmiler: While he pretended to be a happy-go-lucky jokester around his friends from school, he's actually quite serious and has to carry the burden of a DarkAndTroubledPast, ConflictingLoyalty and a HorrorHunger for blood. His real self, as shown around Tsubaki and the others, rarely makes jokes and seems either sad or mildly annoyed with his teammates, often sitting apart from the others.

* NightmareFace: He pulls these on purpose when talking about vampire rumors.

* AdvertisedExtra: The amount of merch he's included in is definitely not proportional to his screen-time. His [[EnsembleDarkhorse popularity]] might be a possible explanation for that though.
