* AmbiguousDisorder: She has many traits that can make her seem rather "off", such as her slight pauses before speaking with others, her rather LiteralMinded responses to others' statements, her [[TheStoic rare display of emotion]] and her almost narrow-minded obsession with rocks. She even describes herself as "different" from other ponies in "Rock Solid Friendship". What's more, there's heavy implications that it's not so much she ''doesn't'' feel anything, as she simply ''can't'' express her emotions that well. Unfortunately, these traits also make her seem almost unrelateable to anypony but Pinkie.

* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest: This is one of the possibilities that Lauren would've liked to use, that their parents ''"simply passed away somehow"'', but she knew all too well that ''"it would have likely been deemed too sad for a kids' show"''. Sibsy later confirmed on her Twitter that Applejack's parents were KilledOffForReal, with the shooting stars in "Apple Family Reunion" meant to represent them.

* {{Irony}}: Despite Rainbow Dash adoring being cheered for and liking to be the center of attention (as shown in more than a few prior episodes), she's embarrassed, frustrated and annoyed by the exuberant cheering of her parents.

* AbsenteeClubMember: The Cutie-Mark Crusaders accepted Babs Seed into their club in "One Bad Apple", but she never attended any of their meetings due to living far away, and she left the club after getting her cutie mark in "Bloom and Gloom".

An earth pony with buck teeth who wears a [[NiceHat trucker cap]] with a turnip on it and a dirty white T-shirt. His cutie mark is three turnips. Hayseed works as a window washer in Canterlot in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E9SweetAndElite Sweet and Elite]]" and appears in Ponyville in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E6SleeplessInPonyville Sleepless in Ponyville]]". "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E9AppleFamilyReunion Apple Family Reunion]]" sees him attending said reunion and even being included in the family photo, revealing him to be part of the Apple Family. While not the brightest, he appears to be nice, greeting and complimenting Rarity when he sees her. In the ExpandedUniverse, a short feature in Creator/IDWPublishing's ''ComicBook/MyLittlePonyMicroSeries'' Issue #3 suggests that he started working in Ponyville, had a crush on Rarity but couldn't get her affection, and so moved to Canterlot to start his own business to be able to show his success to her.

The same episode also [[HandWave sorta kinda justifies]] his usual silence by Apple Bloom saying he's shy.
