* ImMelting: Gets caught in Glacius' liquid form and appears to be melted. Subverted- he used his reflexes and an ice clone teleport to get out in time, and it was the clone that melted instead.
* InadequateInheritor: Despite his accomplishments, Kuai-Liang for a long time felt pressured by being Bi-Han's younger brother and the idea of living up to his legacy as Sub-Zero more than once ended up clouding his own judgement in battle. * LegacyCharacter: The first Sub-Zero is Bi-Han, who was killed by Scorpion in Mortal Kombat and reborn as Noob Saibot. The second and current Sub-Zero is Bi-Han's younger brother Kuai-Liang, who took up the name in honor of his fallen sibling. The fight focuses on Kuai-Lang specifically.
* McNinja: Both Bi-Han and Kuai-Liang are of mixed Chinese-American ancestry, and the Lin Kuei is Chinese in origin, though they claim not to be such (Kuai-Liang, in particular, dislikes the Lin Kuei being seen as ninja since it associates him with Scorpion). His ninja training and teleportation allowed him to outmaneuver Glacius' keep-away strategy, and get the opening needed to win.

* OffWithHisHead: The originator of the most infamous decapitation fatality in ''Mortal Kombat'', the Spine Rip, in which he rips the head of his opponent off with their entire spine dangling from it. Kuai-Liang would proudly copy it from his brother. It's how he succeeds in killing Glacius.

* SuperiorSuccessor: Kuai-Liang would grow much more powerful than his brother ever was, alive or undead.

* TaughtByExperience: Kuai-Liang has fought ninjas, robot-ninjas, secret agents, movie stars, gods, and fellow ice warriors countless times throughout his life. As such, an alien like Glacius barely registers on the weirdness-sensor for him.
* {{Tykebomb}}: Both Bi-Han and Kuai-Liang were abducted from their parents and inducted into the Lin Kuei training as children and raised to be the best assassins the clan ever produced.
* UnwillingRoboticization: In the new continuity, Kuai-Liang was transformed into Cyber Sub-Zero as part of the Lin Kuei's Cyber Initiative instead of Smoke. He recovered after being killed and brought BackFromTheDead before the events of ''Mortal Kombat X''.

* OffWithHisHead: His frozen skull falls off his spinal cord and shatters on the ground after Sub-Zero punches through his ice armour and rips both out of him.

* VictoryFakeOut: Sub-Zero has had one of his hands melted off, and Glacius manages to dissolve him for the win... only for TheReveal to hit: Glacius had only melted an ice clone as Sub-Zero had teleported out just in time, and is quick to rip his spine out clean.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Glacius can manipulate the ice that makes up his body, allowing him to, among other things, [[BladeBelowTheShoulder morph his arms into giant ice blades]], give himself ElementalArmor, and liquefy himself for better mobility. This is possible thanks to his MindOverMatter powers. His liquid form almost lets him keep up with Sub-Zero, and nearly fully absorbs him after melting his hand, but Subby teleports out at the last second.

* SurpriseCreepy: There's an official animated short showing a young Smokey barely surviving a forest fire, coming out of the disaster with burnt paws. Boomstick was shocked by how dark it was.

* ThisIsGoingToSuck: His reaction to Smokey about to squash him in his own monster truck is a grimace.

* DisproportionateRetribution: Natsu basically engages in mortal combat with Ace because he ran away without paying for his food. Hey, the Death Battle [[AnthropicPrinciple has to happen somehow.]] He doesn't even realize Ace is a world-class wanted criminal once during the fight, as his bounty poster is burned to a crisp and Ace never bothers to mention it.

* PlayingWithFire: He's the Fire Dragon Slayer, which not only gives him the ability to create flames but ''[[FeedItWithFire eat]]'' them to restore his energy (though it doesn't work on flames he produces himself). His ability to consume fire gives him the edge in this fight, giving him a way to counter almost all of Ace's arsenal, and more importantly, limiting Ace's ability to become intangible to his attacks, giving Natsu more opportunities to kill him.
