Find a Trope:
openVideo Game Gliding Videogame
Where exactly is gliding on the scale of things? I'm talking things like Mario's raccoon tail/cape/bunny ears/flying squirrel suit/etc., Rayman and friends' various helicopter hair/arm flapping/magic-empowered glides, Clank's Heli-Pack and Thruster-Pack, Sly Cooper's Paraglider, Spelunky's cape, etc.
Is gliding just a subset of Video Game Flight? The description reads, among other things:
Not Quite Flight itself seems to be somewhere between "this character has the ability to glide" and "this character has abilities that grant them flight in non-standard ways, such as combining high speed and high jumps, using telekinesis on themselves, or propelling themselves with some other force" and swaps between them so often I'm pretty sure it's just a catch-all for "this character can move through the air in fancy fashion in some way, shape or form".
openA sweet+Eggs
A sweet food (sugar) combined with salty or non sweet things (eggs) and still tastes sweet
openSelf-Propelled Buzzsaw Videogame
Exactly what the title says. If you still don't understand, it's basically singular buzzsaws that somehow keep moving (or even accelerate) on their own for unusually long distances.
openToo Little Exposition
When in a media, background exposition which may clarify or explain the events of a story isn't well given or fully covered, not even in accessible manuals, leaving the story somewhat coherent and overall working but missing most parts which can fully explain what's going on.
openTrauma-induced disability
A character acquires a disability after a traumatic experience, like Tommy.
openuseless time based mission
mission: must completed in 15 turn or less Bob: Dies in 6 turn or less
Edited by Baolen2445openSnap Out Of It Kiss
A guy kisses a girl (or vice versa) in order to snap someone out of them rambling on about something, usually it's a kiss that neither have done before. They may or may not fall in love after this, though they will pretty much be flustered over it with a blush.
openFantastic Supremacy
I was wondering if a trope about superpowered beings (mutants, magical girls, magic users in general, etc) that seek to destroy and oppress people that aren't them (like muggles) exists...and failing that if it would be tropeworthy or if it would be The Same, But More Specific version of Fantastic Racism or if such a trope would cause problems down the road if it were to exist?
EDIT: nvm found it. Its called Super Supremacist
Edited by MorningStar1337openDreams becoming reality
Do we have Some thing for when a character can enter a persons dream and affect them in real life. I.e. what they do their causes changes in the real world?
openBest Event Ever Videogame
in live service games, one particular time-limited gameplay event is so ridiculously liked by the playerbase that they hold mock funerals (or something equally ridiculous) for it after it's over.
from what i've noticed over the years it seems like this only happens in games that have a negative reputation for Fake Longevity, even by live service/MMORPG standards.
some examples i can think of off the top of my head:
- The Division 2's playerbase really loved the Golden Bullet event, which trivialized Heroic difficulty content, unlike other events which were generally regarded as having Scrappy Mechanics.
- Dungeon Fighter Online:
- back in the first year or two of the relaunch's lifespan, there used to be events that dumped truckloads of free entry materials to dungeons that drop endgame equipment (said materials were otherwise ridiculously slow to accumulate unless you can raid)
- people were praising the Tower of Despair Challenge event left and right because it was an Idle Game.
openMonster judges itself by human standards
Do we have a trope for when monsters/aliens/other nonhumans use human standards to judge themselves? For example, members of a Pig Man race consider themselves ugly because they don't meet conventional human standards of attractiveness? Especially if they're a natural race and not a case of Was Once a Man or a created species.
openSilly concept, serious character
A trope or trivia item (more likely trivia item) about how a deep, serious character stemmed from a complete joke of an idea. Like if someone included a sentient Bitcoin in a murder mystery as a joke, but in the final story his death was legitimately tragic and the start of a Protagonist Journey to Villain.
openDenied Rename
Is it still Malicious Misnaming if the renamed person insists on going by a nickname or a self-aggrandizing name, and the other is going by their real or original name?
For instance, Dumbledore always addressing Voldemort as Tom Riddle.
openA trope for cannon weapons
I for sure thought this would be on here already but I haven’t seen anything. Hand Cannon doesn’t count.
openSurvive to die later
A character who is Doomed by Canon is in a situation they would possibly die in, but no, the authors decided to pull this twist and let them die later.
openBeard of Misery
A character who has hit rock bottom will often possess a small, unkempt beard as a symbol that they stopped caring for their body.
openThe characters call in their friends?
The heroes need some help on a mission, so they call in favors from various friends they've made throughout the show. Not necessarily Back for the Finale but usually goes in hand with it.
Examples:
- The Mandalorian Season 2 ends with Mando gathering help from Cara, Boba, Fennec, Bo-Katan, and Koska, all of them being some of the allies he made throughout the show, for the mission in the season finale.
- Star Wars Rebels Season 3 ends with Ezra getting the Mandalorians to help save the rebels from Thrawn (combined with Kanan getting "help" from the Bendu), and Season 4 ends with Ezra calling in favors from the clones, Ketsu, Mart, Hondo, Melch, Vizago, and the lothwolves to the Ghost crew and the Lothal rebels liberate Lothal.
Is there a trope for when the work is clearly set in 2020 but there's no coronavirus, no masks, etc?
