I don't think that's really a trope. But related to your question:
Cordon Bleugh Chef would be someone who likes to try combining weird ingredients (usually unsuccessfully).
Tastes Better Than It Looks would be a weird combination seems like it should obviously be awful, but ends up tasting good.
Of course, sugar and eggs are used in cake, so I'm not sure how experimental and unappetizing that would really look.

That'd be a recipe for a rice-based Sponge Cake. Rather delicious.
Add butter or equivalent ingredient and you get shortbread or shortcake, depending on proportions.
