Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.

Ask the Tropers:
openCan the TLP be used for works pages?
Could one use the TLP to help them gather tropes for a works page before they publish it, or is that not allowed?
open Nightmare Fuel picture changed without discussion Videogame
I'm not sure where else to report this since the Image Pickin' forum is full at the moment. Apologies if this is the wrong place to report this, but I wanted the mods to be aware of this.
Sn92 recently changed the page image of Resident Evil Village without bringing the original image up for discussion. I'm fairly certain this is not allowed by wiki rules, but I wanted to bring it up here just in case.
openNo Title
Hexagonsun has made a few concerning edits that look a bit like vandalism and used first-person language in several of them as well.
Edited by WalkinshadowsopenUnordinary
I just found the Characters.Un Ordinary. It links to Characters.Main Characters for the main characters of unOrdinary, which is the wrong namespace; it should be more specific. Two that lead me to AATAFOVS.Main Characters, which isn't a thing I knew existed, but it even has a unique icon, which I'm not sure how that happened. It's also a subpage for a Just for Fun page, which I don't think is allowed.
Edited by jjjj2openSoul Calibur character pages Videogame
Much like the Mortal Kombat characters, I believe that we should make individual pages for Soul Series characters that have enough tropes to warrant them, like Siegfried and Nightmare. What do you say?
openExample order on Film.Avatar
Recently, someone mentioned on the Soft-split thread that Film.Avatar has non-standard folderization of its examples. They are split by "General", "Pandora and Wildlife", and "Warfare". It's been suggested that this is a relic of some old experiments that didn't work out. The page has a massive history (and massive edit wars!) so I can't confirm.
Is there any reason that this page should not be converted to standard alphabetization?
open Wrong spelling Literature
Some troper called offa change the trope Curb-Stomp Battle to Kerb-Stomp Battle in https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/HarryPotterDeathEaters and don't seem he's to going to stop putting the wrong name.
openHindsight Cleanup is extremely negative
I don't want to be that guy, but the Hindsight Cleanup thread seems to be prone to rather rude snark from people in it. A lot of examples that get cut are frequently stated as "Actor garbage". It took me a bit to realize that it wasn't bashing the actors, but was an edit to describe shoehorned actor examples, but the term is confusing because it sounds like that. That being said, there's quite a lot of overly-negative complaining there, particularly from Robert TYL:
- "the Hilarious is all actor crap.
- "...the crowning moment of stupidity..."
- "Honestly all these sounds like wet snail feces, and I'm leaning on cutting all of them."
Just to clarify, this isn't an attack on the thread or the people involved in it. I just feel that the thread is way too charged.

Why are there both Characters.Kirby Major Antagonists 2 and Characters.Kirby Major Antagonists?
openEdit War
Adembergz created a page full of zero-context examples and grammatical errors.
A while later, when I found the page, I commented out the zero-context examples, left a ZCE message thing at the top of the page, and sent them a ZCE notifier.
A few hours after that, they un-hid the examples without changing anything about them.
Edited by GoldenCityBirdopenWhy was Jailbait renamed to Jailbait Taboo?
Was there any discussion about this I don't know of?
openBetter to delete or comment out?
I've read a few conflicting answers via other questions so I figured I should flat out ask, if an entry on a Fridge Brilliance page is really stretching to make its point should the entry be commented out or deleted, with an appropriate edit reason for it mentioned?
Another idea is to add a comment pointing out a simple or reasonable solution but that might veer into natter territory.
Edited by AkibaPurpleopenDuplicate page issue
In trying to dewick a trope for TRS, I ran into two duplicate pages. MMMM.Live Action TV and MaybeMagicMaybeMundane.Live Action TV. The shortened one was actually made earlier this year by Turquoise Owl, but I don't see any explanation why, and it seems completely redundant.
Permission to copy any updates over to the original page and cutlist the dupe?
openFanworks with same titles Anime
What should I do when I come across a fanwork I want to create that has the same title as another?
open Troper using TLP to complain about wiki
psyfry has created this TLP "draft" that consists of nothing but a couple of paragraphs complaining about TV Tropes' content license policy.
Their defense of it being a trope reads like they're just trolling.
Edited by mightymewtronopenCan't Add Property names?
So, I've been trying to add names of other series to another trope page, but for whatever reason, it's not working.
As far as I know, the current method would be to type this, without the spaces:
Western Animation / Futurama
Franchise / Superman
However, for whatever reason, I can't get that to work. Futurama only has the WA part linked to the main WA page, and Superman doesn't work at all. What am I doing wrong?
openDessertsunrise
I really didn't want to make this thread, especially since it might come off as me just being biased and angry, but I don't think that's accurate.
Dessertsunrise has 4 tropes currently on the TLP. Two of them are abandoned, poorly formatted stubs. But the other two aren't. They're actually pretty much launchworthy...except that they both lack substantial descriptions.
On Fourth Wall Farewell, it apparently took them ages to properly format the draft. Once that was resolved, someone pointed out back in November that the description was lacking, and Dessertsunrise ignored them despite being otherwise active. And on Unwritten Rule, I've been trying for literal months to get them to flesh out the description and so far I've been completely ignored despite them making other updates. Specifically, I think the emphasis on bullying and schools is muddling what the actual trope is, which could use a little more elaboration before diving into hypotheticals.
They just don't seem willing to fix issues unless multiple people start complaining or refusing to hat the drafts until they do, or at the very least they're blatantly ignoring criticisms and with the amount of hats, both drafts could easily be launched without actually addressing the description problems.
I'm not calling for a TLP suspension; I'm just at a loss for what to do since I've been trying to get them to at least acknowledge my issue, but they haven't, and I see the same thing happening with Fourth Wall Farewell.
Edited by WarJay77openRenamed trope
If an example got removed from a page because the trope in question was renamed, would there be any problem with adding it back under the new name if I was originally responsible for adding the example at the first place? Or would that be edit warring?
I noticed that the summary for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX has way too many spoilers: in particular, without using any spoiler tags, it describes several plot points that are supposed to be The Reveal and plot twists. The anime came out in 2004, so it's fairly old by now, and it has an "all spoilers unmarked" notice. Should we do something?
