openCreating a Working Page for my Fic Anime
Hello, I'm Retribrutus, and I'm having a bit of a dilemma trying to figure out how to create a works page for my fanfiction. I've read the Administrivia and it says to change the url to an already existing wikipage along with the title but I'm unsure on whether I should change the new page that the url (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/NamespaceGoesHere/TitleGoesHere) provided. Is it safe just to edit things or should I get some sort of permission first?
openClassification Issues? Anime
Is it fair to classify Love Me For Who I Am as having an LGBT Fanbase when it's specifically aimed at queer audiences?
LGBT Fanbase is more of a Periphery Demographic trope, for when works aimed at general or at least non-queer audiences nonetheless attract an especially large or prominent queer audience (as most works will attract a decent following of LGBT fans as a result of sheer logistics).
Edited by AlleyOopopenAvoiding an edit war Anime
This entry used to be on YMMV.Sonic X:
- Idiot Plot: The Egg Moon story line only happens because Sonic is apparently the only person in the entire world who understands basic astronomy.
Nate River 18 removed it with the edit reason: "Idiot Plot is not YMMV".
Idiot Plot is YMMV, though, so permission to restore the entry?
openTearJerker/MobileSuitGundam00 Anime
This page has had some abysmal grammar for some time now. Most of it was added by a single troper (Cinco_005), whom I’m assuming has English as a second language. I and another troper fixed most of it, but I’m exhausted, and a good portion of it still remains. I don’t think I have enough context on the show to do this on my own. The page also had spoiler tags, which is against wiki policy, and which I removed by hand.
Also, for some bizarre reason, the page image was completely deleted in one edit. I also added that back.
openWhere to put Light Novels? Anime
Hi, I am currently working on a possible future Light Novel page, but I am unsure of what section to put the wicks for it in later. I see most Light Novels have theirs under Anime and Manga but I also see some put under Literature with no real consistency to it all. And while some of them have Anime adaptations, not all do.
Which one is really correct here?
open Unfortunate Implications Anime
I saw this in entry in Unfortunate Implications.
- DARLING in the FRANXX: Jacob Chapman has written a Twitter thread on what he regards as the show's "harmful worldview": "The targets of fear and derision in FRANXX hop from aggressive women to gender-nonconformity to childless or infertile adults to Literally An Alien Hivemind", which, according to the show, are "...evidence that the world "went wrong"". Jacob points out that the show's stances concerning gender roles and human relationships give it a misogynistic, homophobic and transphobic bent, and have been used to oppress sexual minorities. He also points out the show's reactionary tone in that it "... takes current-day societal anxieties, exaggerates them, and poses that the solution is to double down on the status quo even harder, framing oppression of others as *true* rebellion."
Is it allowed to post an example that comes from a place like Twitter? I don't know much about the anime or the person (Jacob Chapman) who wrote that thread, but I do know that on the Unfortunate Implications page it says that the source should be something "a bit more formal than someone's Tumblr blog", and I think Twitter isn't formal enough. Plus, some commenters on that page disagree with his opinions, which might discredit this entry's placement on the page.
openWe need to rename Aggressive Retsuko Anime
Long story short: Aggressive Retsuko is its Japanese title. Aggretsuko is its English one. We need to change this. Now, am I correct in assuming that I simply create new pages with the correct name, and copy-paste all the wiki text there?
(Also, if so then I'll need help moving some of the stuff that's got spoilers in it.)
openImage Caption Anime
How do I make a caption where it describes a characters new state and when clicking on the caption box the new image appears?
Edited by MakogirlY14openAntiVillain vs AntiHero? Anime
Hi,
I'm having a Square Peg, Round Trope discussion with another troper regarding an example on Characters. The Death Mage Who Doesnt Want A Fourth Time Talosheim. Basically it's a novel with a Black-and-Gray Morality that makes classifications of hero and villain somewhat murky. This is the example, regarding the protagonist of the story:
- Anti-Villain: Because his mind breaks early in the story and he loses a normal sense of morality, his actions grow steadily more vicious over time... but only towards those who bare fangs at him first and his responses tend to be proportionate and limited in scope. He takes no real pleasure in murder or terrorism, only using them as means to secure the livelihood of his people, who are mostly made up of an extremely oppressed minority struggling to survive and the few people who are willing to live with him. Also, while he doesn't punish his new subordinates for old crimes, they do have to control themselves in the future, indicating they've all been effectively rehabilitated.
As written at least, this seems to me to be an Anti-Hero entry. It describes the main character committing horrific acts, but also how he does not enjoy them, and only does it to protect people, how he helps oppressed minorities, and how he also offers people second chances. So he has heroic motivations, and performs heroic actions alongside villainous ones. But am I missing something here?
Edited by ashlayopenAsh Ketchum = Adaptational Wimp? Anime
Troper Dere added Adaptational Wimp in Ash Ketchum's character page with the following context:
"Unlike his game counterpart who became the Champion at the end of his Kanto journey and was recognized as a Pokémon Master by Lance, Ash was kept by the writers as a skilled but not Champion-level trainer for most of the series' duration in order to prevent him from becoming overpowered against most opponents, and to justify him traveling all over the world challenging the various Pokémon Leagues. He's slowly closing the gap, though, having finally become the champion of a major League at the end of the Alola series, after which he moved on to the loftier goal of entering the World Coronation Series as his next step in his quest toward becoming a Pokémon Master."
I know that Ash is very controversial among Pokémon fans and that the anime treats its powers and fighting rules differently from the games, so I have to ask: is this valid?
Edited by MasterHeroopenShould Ferris (from Re:Zero) Be considered Transgender? Anime
Hi, I'm new to posting here, though I've browsed for longer. I'm a fan of the book series ReZero, but what caught my interest while browsing the trope page was the fact that in the Re Zero Character Sheet Ferris is listed as a crossdressing boy, yet in the Transgender page Ferris is also listed as a transwoman. I think that these are conflicting statements or something. and a bit confusing? Idk. But I wanted to know whether Ferris should be considered a trans girl or a crossdressing boy.
Now. I personally believe that Ferris is a trans woman having read the bulk of the series. And these are some of my reasoning's as to why. Sorry if this is too long.
- Ferris legally goes by Felix Argyle, but she wishes to be called Ferris. In her introduction she reiterates to her boss that being called Felix upsets her, and that "It's Ferris, Not Felix." Her birth name is rarely used in the story. This is akin to a trans person's deadname.
- In the side novel EX 1, it is shown that not even Fourier, one of her best friends, was aware that she had another name that she never used, as Ferris does not like talking about the past, to the point where she doesn't tell people her birth name.
- In the English books, Ferris is addressed with male pronouns after her introduction. yet in the japanese version, she frequently uses feminine pronouns, this fact is also stated on the character sheet.
- Most importantly, there is a scene in her side novel Volume EX 1 which shows that for the last 6 years, Ferris has been praying to be a girl, reaffirming herself everyday when she is alone in the mirror. The Narrator goes on to state that she no longer had to say these words, as they were already apart of the person who spoke them for 6 years.
- There is also a scene in EX 1 which shows that she dreaded coming out to Fourier about her birth gender, as she feared that, like other people, he would no longer want to be her friend.
- Ferris also states that she will never wear men's clothes again. In an interview on Twitter, the Author stated that the one time she wore men's clothes, she actually cried.
- And there is also the small fact that Ferris has been in a couple of video game crossovers that feature them in all-girls casts. I just figured I might add that in.
I know of a popular counterargument that might be brought up. That one is that Ferris in Arc 4 says that "He is a man in heart and soul" according to fan translations of the Web Novel. However, in the Official Light Novel release, This line is omitted and replaced with a line that reads "This outfit is a reflection of my body and spirit." I feel this has a much different meaning than the former line, as the outfit Ferris wears is a girls outfit, and it doesn't seem to imply that she identifies as male. This line is omitted in Volume 10 of the Light Novel, which the author considers to be the final version of the book series. Arc 4 was also released in 2013, when EX 1 and Volume 10 were released post 2015.
All-in-all, these points, alongside other evidence I didn't mention, are why I also think Ferris is trans, and I'd like to know what to make of this.

openCan you be Rescued from the Scrappy Heap if you were never the Scrappy? Anime
I was looking at the YMMV page for Fate/Grand Order Babylonia, and there's an entry referring to the existence of Caster Gilgamesh (who is a Reasonable Authority Figure as opposed to being a villain in most of the franchise's other works) as an instance of the character being Rescued from the Scrappy Heap. Thing is, while Gilgamesh is a Hate Sink in other works in the franchise (Unlimited Blade Works comes to mind) he's usually considered a Base-Breaking Character at worst. He's not listed in any of the franchise's works' pages as a Scrappy, if that makes a difference. I thought the example should be deleted, but as I understand it, Scrappy entries can get a bit contentious so I thought I'd run it by here after discussion only got one response.

Edited by AnaFerTropeopenWhy doesn't "Gankona, Unnachgiebig, Unità" have a work page? Anime
Forgive me for being an idiot if so, but I feel like it should deserve a page. I see it as an example on multiple trope pages, it's fairly popular, and it doesn't seem to violate any rules. (I haven't read it yet, but fanfiction.net says it's rated T) If you think it shouldn't, tell me why.
Also, I know this probably is the wrong medium to categorize it in, but "Fanfiction" isn't listed there.
openPlease help me fix a page's redirects! Anime
Okay, so, a couple of years ago, I made Anime and Manga link pages for Muka Muka Paradise, but I had goofed; I should've made the Manga page the main with the Anime link as the redirect instead of the other way around.
Is there a simple way I can switch them around now?
openAborted Declaration of Love usage on a character page Anime
A troper added Aborted Declarationof Love under Kakeru Kurahara in Run with the Wind, but I removed it because I didn't think it was being used correctly. (The trope is when someone plans to confess to their love interest but changes their mind, whereas in this example Kakeru casually mentions to his teammate that "[he's] in love, too" but doesn't follow up on it; the series doesn't explicitly state who/what he's in love with, but the teammate is not a love interest and Kakeru was not specifically confessing to him.) Despite me explaining in the edit reason that the trope didn't fit, the same troper added it back. Do I have permission to remove the example again without counting it as an edit war?
I have a fanwork that I'm writing, and I'd like my work to be mentioned on Tvtropes, or have its own page. How can I do that?
