I swear, I would've assumed Netflix was run by Jeffery Katzenberg!! They're throwing money every which way like a naive child!

Considering the Anime they will Finance will generally have much higher budgets then Anime do now, it will be a good thing for those anime in the long run.

I fear it may turn these original anime shows into resembling more of the Hollywood shows I generally dislike. Notice how a lot of their anime they posted so far is CGI! But that may be me being negative again.

I won't say a single thing against them if they pull out a Metroid adaption.

But anyway, the vast majority of it is probably just stuff they're licensing.

Netflix I beseech thee. Create a Super Mario anime or Zelda anime.

Worth noting too that that lines are being drawn in the sand as far as streaming content goes. Disney already announced they plan to pull all their content from Netflix in 2019 to launch their own service. Warner Bros is already planning to do the same. And I have to imagine more big companies are going to follow suit before the big Streaming bubble pops.

So from this perspective, it makes sense for Netflix to push for even more "original" productions, anime included. I don't necessarily see anything bad either with Netflix devoting more of the budget to anime. If we're getting more stuff like Castlevania and the incoming Devilman, I say the more the welcome.

So there's some news about a possible Hollywood adaptation of Lone Wolf and Cub.

I liked it better when it was called Road to Perdition.tongue

3 months ago, Sentai Filmworks announced they were dubbing Squid Girl season 2.

But a lot of people were wondering how, as a dubbing company in Texas, were they going to have the same cast members from the first season and how much of it was going to get recast.

And this is were we enter Bad News Good News territory:

Because the bad news is all the supporting cast got Other Darrin'd, namely:

BUT! All is not lost, because a film or show relies a ton of its worth towards its main character, and the good news is that the inkvader nearly no one can take seriously, Squid Girl, is still voiced by Christine Marie Cabanos!

Have a first preview!

[up] Squid Girl was initially licensed by Media Blasters, but when they went belly up (IIRC), Sentai Filmworks later got the license.

...so yeah, new company.

The only voice in that clip I wasn't really feeling was Eiko. The raspier voice doesn't fit her at all.

But anyway, the episode where they all try to speak English is gonna be... fun. Yeah. Fun.

It's one thing to make a spectacle. It's another to make a difference.

So the trope of running past a girl and her skirt flips up got tested [1]. You need at least a speeding car to get it to happen.

On this wiki, the work Bakuman。 has this circle, or Japanese equivalent of a period after it. But then there's a space. Meaning that every time some one links that page there's an extra space in there. Is the space a part of the title? Or is it just a formatting error?

There doesn't appear to be an extra space to me. If it looks like there's one, that's just part of the period font, see (。)

Just finished watching Aria. It was largely what I was expecting, if a little more down-to-earth. Not an amazing show, but distinct and personal, and I can see why it's considered a staple. I thought the supernatural segments (with Cait Sith and the time travel and so on) were a little weird and unnecessary, especially since they mysteriously stopped happening towards the end; it'd be convenient to explain them away as just Akari's daydreams that went away as she matured, but they're clearly more real than that, so I'm not sure what to think. Other than that the setting was generally nice, although I feel it was a little uncreative to just rebuild Earth's historical sites on Mars (there was some implication that the Earth had become an overpopulated city planet and that rebuilding those sites elsewhere was the only way to save them), and there were a lot of bizarre elements left unexplained. The story felt a bit rushed at the end, and I kinda wish they had drawn out those events to give a more even sense of progression, but it kinda worked all the same. The characters were great, a little generic but executed flawlessly, and aside from the atmosphere I think they were the main draw of this show. The music and voice acting were both decent, but didn't really stand out, save for the singing segments.

Next up I mean to watch the Akira movie. Based on screenshots I don't really like the look of the art, but it's just one movie and I'm kind of obliged to watch it for its historical value. I figured I might as well do that now, when the time in which the movie is set is still in the future, and also because I want to watch it before watching Ghost in the Shell (which in turn I want to watch before watching the recent live-action version).

After that, at long last, I'll be watching Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I saw the original show back in 2010 (it was the fourth anime show I watched) and it was excellent, and I hear Brotherhood is even better, but I've been deliberately putting it off so that it feels more fresh with the original farther behind me. But I think now it's time- it's actually been longer since I watched the original show than the span between when the two shows aired.

The anime industry earned 2 trillion yen for the first time in its history in 2016. You could argue that this is due to Crunchyroll and Netflix suddenly becoming major investors in anime too.

That's not even considering how much animation work gets outsourced to Korea. Imagine if they tried to keep it all in-country.

Just watched Akira. The art style was a tad better than screenshots had led me to believe, but I still wouldn't want to sit through an entire TV anime drawn like that. The animation quality on the other hand was spectacular, particularly for its age. The story was kind of all over the place, but moved along fast enough to keep that from becoming a real problem, and the Gainax ending was weird but not really unexpected. The characters were pretty forgettable, mostly serving the needs of the story rather than the other way around.

Anyway, I'm glad to have watched it and gotten it out of the way.
