Subpages cleanup: Complete Monster

Go To

During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.

Specific issues include:

  • Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
  • A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
  • Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
  • Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
  • Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.

It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:

Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.

IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.

When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. "[tup] to everyone I missed").

No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.

We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.

What is the Work

Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?

This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.

Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?

Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.

Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Final Verdict?

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Well, here's another Digimon related thing. I'm not too crazy for the quote on Digimon's Monster page.

"He's nothing but a deadly, blood-sucking fiend. Nothing is as evil as Malo Myotismon!" —Gatomon, referring to Malo Myotismon through the Digimon Analyzer in Digimon Adventure 02

It's just Gatomon saying Malo Myotismon is evil. Because Kurata is character I wanted to rewrite his paragraph on, I found this quote from the dub of Savers that better fits.

"How dare Merukimon mess up my masterpiece! Some Digimon just don't know when to be deleted, I mean seriously, that guy was a pain until the very end! It's so foolish for any Digimon to think that it can ever defy the whims of a human. A time when humans and Digimon can leave together peacefully. What a silly and pointless idea to waste your life on! I can't stop laughing at the absurdity of it all." - Akihiro Kurata mocking the final wishes of the recently murdered Merukimon around his loved ones in Digimon Savers/Data Squad

"Sam Manson is a terrible character."

I have a candidate from the horror film Heartstopper

Who is he? What does he do?

Jonathan Chambers is a Satan-worshipping, notorious Serial Killer wanted for a number of murders, his MO is ripping the heart out of his victims. The film opens with him ripping a man's heart out. He is eventually captured by the police and sentenced to the death penalty via electric chair however he survives due to making a Deal with the Devil where he gains supernatural powers making him Nigh-Invulnerability. When the police officers nearly avoid hitting Sara Wexler (an unpopular teen girl who attempted to commit suicide due to being bullied at her school) who had a dislocated shoulder, they call the ambulance and have her taken to the hospital with the supposedly deceased Jonathan who puts some kind of Satanic mark on her arm.

When one of the doctors goes to examine Jonathan's "dead" body Jonathan wakes up and rier rips the doctor's heart out. When Ms. Wexler steps into the hospital hallway to smoke a cigarette checking up on her injured daughter, Jonathan sneaks up behind her and turns on her lighter, setting her on fire. After overpowering Sheriff Berger and no-selling his gun shots he rips out the Sheriff's heart. He then locks off all the exits and starts killing everyone in the hospital. He kills another doctor after he refused to reveal Sara's whereabouts to him, Once finding Sara and Walter he chases them to a room with a bunch of patients and doctors/nurses in.

He rips out an operating patient's heart out, rips out two of the male nurses hearts out, and rips out everyone remaining in the room's heart out (aside from Sara and Walter who were hiding at the time). As he chases down and terrorizes Sara, Walter, and another nurse, who are the last living people in the hospital he reveals his plan is to take Sara's body as it's the only vessel with the power to grant him Complete Immortality. After knocking out the nurse with a pipe he captures her and decides to spares her heart planning to eat her later after he obtains Sara's body. Once finding Sara and Walter he attacks them after Sara manages to shoot him enough times to keep him down Sara tries to rip his heart out with a scalpel but can't do it , Jonathan then gets up and stabs Sara with the scalpel stating that once he has Sara's body he will eat out Walter's heart as a little pick me up, before shattering the windows causing a tornado however Sara manages to open a portal to hell and sends Jonathan to it.

Mitigating Factors?

Sets the heinous standard. No problem there. As for other possible mitigating factors he's a devil worshiper, viewing his existence and god as a whole as suffering. He also calls the people he kills sinners for not praising the devil. So yeah.....nothing mitigating here.

For Abattoir, here's the possible Pet the Dog moment.
[tup] Brajira and Heartstopper dude.
I just checked; looks like Blonde and Carver are Madsen's only 2 CMs.

I added the Radiguet quote. If the vote for Bias looks the same by this afternoon, I'll start a writeup.

ACW, I just rewatched the tipping scene from Reservoir Dogs, and the quotes you attributed to Mr. Blonde weren't said by him. They were said by Mr. Blue and Mr. White. The only time Mr. Blonde says anything in that scene is when Mr. Pink says that he expects his coffee to be filled 6 times, to which Mr. Blonde asks "What if she's too fucking busy?" Other than that, he just seems mildly amused by Mr. Pink not tipping.

[up] Ah, good. I was going by the transcript. I REALLY need to see both that and Pulp Fiction, as I've seen and enjoyed his other movies I've seen.

[tup] for Heartstopperman.

I've done a write up for Brajira, who's at 5[tup] right now, but I'll hold off putting it in the drafts for now.

Unless ACW deems it unnecessary, of course. Thanks for posting that potential Pet the Dog, by the by. It seems he could have just been joking, like "Man, wait till he sees what I got planned. Won't he be freaked out? Hilarious!" Or it could have been genuine. It's an Offscreen Heroism moment, maybe?

I'll throw in a [tup] for Brajira. Took some time, but the effortpost ultimately addressed my issues with him.

Expect Bias's writeup by the end of the day.

I can easily hear it as him gloating a bit, in the same tone as the Joker in TDK warning against travelling over the bridges and tunnels (though of course that situation was rather different).

There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only... Hooty.

[tup] Jonathan, the devil worshipper.

BTW, maybe this has been asked many times so no hard feelings, but what's the reason why The Creeper hasn't been accepted as a CM ? Was that because we don't know much about him or because he has a not so defined personality ?

The Creeper came up not long ago. Essentially, it's pretty damn vague whether or not the Creeper's actually got agency; a few trace hints to a sadistic nature doesn't necessarily constitute as characterized enough to be on this trope (or even intelligent enough, for that matter).

From what I've gathered, Abattoir isn't even that well known for most of his own heinous crimes and instead for being a character used to sell us on Jean-Paul Valley's heinousness, since him letting Abattoir die was considered horrible and prompted Bruce to come out of retirement and eventually take back the mantle. And it's not even that Abattoir was so awful that he made Valley feel he had to kill him (like Superman Doomsday Toyman or Injustice Joker) - Valley chose to bring about his death because Valley cared nothing for human life if they belonged to criminals. So he's still a [tdown] for me.

I don't see how that's relevant when Batman is so stupidly obsessed with human life has intervened to save the Joker when the personification of divine justice wanted to kill him.

Here's Bias for those who want to review.

  • Great Professor Bias is the prime example of corrupters in the franchise. Having corrupted three geniuses before the show began, turning them into his students, Bias has them massacre the remaining geniuses at Academia. After kicking out Goh Omura and attempting to kill him, Bias recruits the aliens Guildos and Butchy. When Guildos tries to prove his superiority through Guild-zuno, it is revealed that both aliens are actually robots built by Bias to make the humans try harder, which he coldly tells Butchy to his face after Guildos's death. After Butchy is convinced to defect, Bias blows him up. Goh later realizes that Bias only wants his students for their brains, one of which will be used for the Giga Brain Wave, which will turn all humanity into Bias's slaves and make Bias immortal. After Yusuke saves the world from the Giga Brain Wave, Bias is reverted to a child who shifts his goals from conquest to destruction and mocks Megumi's kindness when she offers it before finally rejecting redemption.

FS 1: To the drafts please.
ANewMan: That's...not a reason. Now, if you wanna say he's not heinous enough (though I disagree), then fine. If you wanna say the Pet the Dog moment is too ambiguous (here it is again), that's even more fine. It's the henchman saying "He told me not to take the six-thirty-eight train tonight..." Of course, for all we know, the henchman was useful and Abattoir wanted to continue to make use of him.
