I'd say we can make this a purely in-universe trope, about an actor who, well, has played a role with which s/he is forever associated, to the point of it either being the butt of jokes at his/her expense or becoming a big part of the person's ego, etc.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Wouldn't something like that be covered by I Am Not Spock?
- Hey Its That Guy: This character is that other character!
- Role Association: [Honestly not sure what the definition is]
I do see a fairly distinct(-ly written) example set, though.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAccording to the I Am Not Spock page, Role Association is the Just for Fun version of this trope. I'm not thoroughly sure what this means though.
Didn't we just have Hey Its That Guy in here because it was chronically misused for Role Association?
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Technically, because people were annoyed at the persistent usage as "This character is that guy from that other show!".
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman"Watching anything with a well seasoned cast will have echoes of the actors' previous roles, making the current viewing seem bizarre and humorous. It's Actor Allusion and Hey Its That Guy/Hey Its That Voice taken to their logical extreme.
Just for fun, twist the cast of a film or series into the screwiest collection of characters."
So it is supposedly Hey Its That Guy The Same But More?

Some of the listings use lesser known roles, so it isn't really I Am Not Spock. IMHO, it's Hey Its That Guy / Hey Its That Voice inserted into a plot.
Amazing discoveryClock is set.
Role Association is what people chronically misuse Hey Its That Guy and Hey Its That Voice for, whereas Hey Its That Guy is supposed to be actors who turn up in a lot of one-shot roles, with few if any lead or major supporting roles.
I'm inclined to fix both problems by redirecting Hey Its That Guy to Role Association or vice versa and making a new trope to cover the definition of Hey Its That Guy. Problem then becomes wick cleanup.

The Hey Its That Guy thread was quite firmly against that option. It was decided that Hey Its That Guy and related tropes stay the way they are.
Redirecting Role Association to Hey Its That Guy could work, though.

Maybe YKTT Wing a new trope as Chronic Extra or something.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Ok, so suppose we redirect Role Association to Hey Its That Guy and Hey Its That Voice, transplant its definition and description onto them, and then make a new trope for what Hey Its That Guy is supposed to be.

That is just what the previous post rejected.
Role Association is a Just for Fun page that has currently no issues with any misfitting entries, no problems with being referred to incorrectly. Any alteration to either of the pages of Hey Its That Guy or Role Association would be appalling because they represent a large amount of work by many people to make two pages with distinct and coherent identities in a deliberate fashion after dealing with concerns raised already in the Trope Repair Shop.
I see no reason to actually change anything with this page.
Re-clocking; is there anything to do here?
I think a crowner should be held.
Part of the problem I have is that for a Just For Fun bit, it made such a sheer volume of subpages, 76(!) to be exact, which amounted to "Work Z: Character from Work A and Character from Work B are doing this while Character from Work C..." (and so on, so forth). Hey Its That Guy does kind of fulfill the purpose without being so Just for Fun... I'd be fine with the status quo but this seems a bit ridiculous IMO. As someone who dabbled in wick namespacing, this can be a pretty annoying situation to deal with.
Just now, I'm thinking of having some sort of crowner.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.Cut. Pointless non-trope. Hey Its That Guy is pointless enough, should have been cut but survived that Trope Repair Shop thread. This is just a copy of that.
I agree with Some Sort of Troper, but some of the sub-pages could be removed.
I see no reason why this page should be completely deleted; it's a Just for Fun game where the characters are removed from a plot, being replaced by the actors' other roles.

Amazing discoveryFound a good quote from Cracked about "Kim Possible" and put it on the main page.

Canonical List of Subtle Trope Distinctions: Hey Its That Voice / Hey Its That Guy is pointing out the actors' other roles. Role Association is inserting those roles into the plots of other works.

Amazing discoveryBig Bertha hit the nail on the head. That's one reason to keep Role Association as it is.

I've read the description of this trope several times, and I still can't figure out what it's trying to say. I'm pretty sure it's misusing the Just for Fun pothole... right?
I'm completely confused.
Leaper, the definition is basically: "Take the plot of your favorite work, find the actors' other characters, and insert the new characters into the plot." Here are some examples, where I am listing the actors and their characters:
- Example 1: Batman: The Animated Series: Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill; The Joker) is an insane criminal mastermind and a Monster Clown.
- Example 2: The Mask: Ace Ventura discovers a mask that turns him into Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey is both characters; Stanley Ipkiss and the Mask).
On the crowner, I suggested merging some of the sub-pages based on languages. There will be less sub-pages, but they'll be longer with folders.
- Brazilian Portuguese (Portugal uses subtitles, except for kids' shows)
- French
- German
- Hungarian
- Italian
- Japanese (except Anime and maybe Video Games)
- Polish
- Spanish (contains Latin America and Spain)

Amazing discovery
Crown Description:
What should be done about Role Association?
I do have a feeling that this is just far too similar to Hey Its That Guy/Voice, so those trivia tropes should be considered as well for this. And in either account, much of the rest would be accounted for in Actor Allusion, so what can be done about either of the two?

I now go by Graf von Tirol.
