TLP Crash Rescue - Fixing prematurely launched TLPs and pages

Go To

Prematurely launched pages and pages that weren't fully fleshed out at the point of launching, are a big problem. Since these usually share several problems at once, this thread is aimed at re-running them through the TLP for fixing - the usual fix - or cutting them if they are too bad.

Problems this thread deals with include bad names, not enough/bad examples, unclear description, etc.

For the interested, here's a list of recently created pages. Launches

Note: Please do not request a mod to unlaunch drafts that don't have any issues besides lacking a launch notice/24hr launch notice. While 24hr launch notices are mandatory, there are a few exceptions to the rule. If you see a draft's sponsor launch a TLP without an announcement, it's best to remind them of our TLP Guidelines first. If they continue to repeatedly launch drafts without a launch notice, you can report them on Ask The Tropers or the TLP Community Issues thread.

Hello, first time in this thread, hope I'm doing this right.

Demongodofchaos 2 launched Manga.Made In Abyss on July 14, 2017 with only one trope and a description plagiarized from My Anime List. They also made Characters.Made In Abyss, Trivia.Made In Abyss, and YMMV.Made In Abyss with no entries in them at all.

Should I put them on the Cutlist?

... I see a lot of tropes on the main page.

Those subpages are effectively blank, so yes I think they should go on the Cut List. That said, the works page seems fine. Except the description itself.

That description of the work looks to have been pulled from another site. I'm not sure if that's kosher even if there's attribution.

Seems someone else started adding stuff just after I posted about it in this thread, guess it's fine then. I had sent a stub notification to Demongodofchaos 2 before posting about here, guess nothing else needs doing, aside from maybe bugging them about writing the description in their own words?

Plagiarism is not hosted here. If they don't fix it, take it to the copy paste thread.

[up] - Link to the Copy Paste Thread.

So, continuing from the last page, I suppose I should take The Gardener to Repairs instead of trying to handle the repairs in this thread?

[up]we could do it here. As there are 2 current variations mentioned, I'd expand on both. The first would be showing a caring character type through having gardening (especially specifically pruning and landscaping) as a hobby; the second would be a magical gardener, a literal green thumb sort who has plant powers (unless we already have something like that, I feel like we do with Green Thumb)

Sing A New Song is just one line

Characters.Theme Twin Naming appears to be someones attempt to add a new entry to the trope page

And I'm not sure what ECKVA is meant to be and it is the users only edit

Creator.Queg was just made with 3(!) redirects and... yeah. Other than sounding like overly gushing (and reminding me of that kind of forced zaniness of a kid who binged all five books in the Hitchhiker's trilogy while eating a ridiculous amount of Pixie Stix... might be speaking from experience, here), none of the comics on the page have TV Tropes pages. Ironically, the guy who made the page also DID make a page for one of his works... but didn't list it on his creator's page.

[up] This is what it says over on Creators:

all works made by them should go on the creator page due to the artist's style suggesting that the works have no true name or title, though redirects should exist to said page from "Prescription Pudding", "Meeplesworth & Associates", "bimshwel.com" and "The Astoundingly Pointless Existences of Captain Crumbum and the Dork Brigade".

That doesn't seem kosher at all. I think all of those redirects should be cut so that someone can make those pages for those works if they want to.

Also note that the redirects are wicked from the Creator/ page, which is misleading...

[up][up][up][up] - So, change The Gardener to Caring Gardener, and move all Green Thumb magic gardening to Mundane Utility and/or Mundane Made Awesome?

I wouldn't call the superpower to control plants a Mundane Utility (Poison Ivy, anyone?) — but the "gardener does his task by magic" is Mundane Made Awesome Mundane Utility (thanks, Malady). Move those examples there. Any examples of Green Thumb go there, then needs some rewrite to Caring Gardener.

As a character, my brain automatically goes to a hired gardener, often the groundskeeper.

  • Common person for young children to befriend and get wisdom from (I suspect it's a combination of Close to Earth wisdom and Old Retainer).
  • Usually unusually well-informed of what's going on, particularly things thought to be private, due to the combination of them being ubiquitous enough not to notice, their quiet work, and their tendency to literally be hidden in the hedgerows. May overlap with the former as they give said child the "real facts".
  • Overlap with Crusty Caretaker in that they're often less than sociable, although character-wise, they tend to be more introverted than antisocial.
  • May be some degree of Almighty Janitor due to them knowing where the bodies are buried, figuratively and sometimes literally.

[up][up] - Mundane Made Awesome is a mundane thing presented in an awesome way, like large loud swishes when writing things.

Mundane Utility is Mundane thing done with awesome abilities.

Huh. At first I thought your claim was spurious, but Best Her to Bed Her is a LOT broader than I thought.

Honestly, the only concrete difference between the two is that Best Her to Bed Her is written as the beaten one exclusively being female. There does seem to be a different feel to the two (Rivalry as Courtship seems to be more about "UST between rivals") but they're really similar. Did this come up in YKTTW?

Also, examples aren't great. The description is explicitly "Bob is interested in Alice. Therefore he decides to become her rival."

Of the five examples, we have:

  • Bob tries to keep up with Alice in a sport just to keep her attention. (eh. Close enough)
  • Bob and Alice are rivals and then become romantic (not this trope, according to the description)
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension between rivals (it's unclear on the timing, but they seem to have been rivals first, then Alice was mean to cover her feelings)
  • Entirely unrelated, this is just "rivals can be romanced."
  • Again, Bob and Alice are rivals and become romantic.

Definitely send back to figure out what it is. There's five examples and only one vaguely resembles the description.
