Well, as some (and by some I mean the few people in This Very Wiki who both RP and like Yu-Gi-Oh!) people know, four Yu-Gi-Oh! RPs were hosted here in the fora. Sarcastically Insane's Duel Academy's two instances were Cancellated, Michael DJ 54's Yu-Gi-Oh! UA died, and Iniquitus The Third's Frozen Academy is dead since he disappeared in March.
So I decided to start a new one, because I really miss their Hammy declarations and general silliness; hopefully it won't meet an untimely end like its predecessors.
This RP will be set in an Alternate Universe to the main continuity, mainly to avoid silly card limits. It will take place, as the thread's title says, in East Academy, conveniently set in the Negev desert, Israel (Canon doesn't mention anything about East Academy except for its name)*

. You are going to RP its students. There is going, of course, to be a plot, but for now it is secret; its first arc would be an obligatory Tournament Arc.
Now, some technical stuff.

• First of all, doineedaname is the co-GM. Teh Stanman is the GM due my lack of free time. I, Teh Stanman and Nick The Swing are the GMs.
• Standard RP rules apply. They can be found here.
• No dropping out without warning; it tends to greatly inconvenience the other players if you just vanish off the face of the earth without explanation, and leaves the rest of us in an awkward position as to how your abandoned character should be dealt with. If you plan on leaving or know that you will have to give the game up at some point, please, tell us so that it can be incorporated and dealt with in terms of plot and characters.
• While I don't expect Sullen-length posts, I do expect people to know their SPaG*
  Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar
  . I'm a bit of a Grammar Nazi, and I really can't stand extremely bad SPaG. This is where you can get help with English.
• Your Decks must comply with the Advanced Format, though both TCG and OCG cards are allowed. The rule of thumb is: If you can duel with the card in DN's Rated section, it's fine. New applications should use the September format, even though the rest of the decks are still in March format. ^note  The Forbidden/Limited list (September 2012) can be found here. The exceptions are the following archetypes, which are forbidden for plot reasons: Exodia, including Exodius the Ultimate Forbidden Lord, Exodia Necross and Exxod, Master of the Guard; the Egyptian God Cards; the Wicked Gods; the Sacred Beasts/Three Phantom Demons; and the Aesir.
• Also, it would be nice if you'd not use Meta decks such as Inzektors, Dark Worlds, et cetera. The point of the RP is character interaction (and the obligatory Large Ham), not winning duels. You've DN*

• Last but not least, I know Israeli politics are a touchy subject, so no mentioning them. Any needed reference to them would be Hand Waved away. We're here to have fun, not to argue about politics.

• History: He has had to come to terms with a truly awkward name, and has since always registered for everything as Art, instead of his full name. Looks interesting, I'll write up a character soon. I've got one question though, in the RP world, are the Numbers just normal cards? I know you didn't specify them as being off-limits, but just about every other plot device archetype is, so I figured it was worth asking.

What are Meta decks?

So, um... Thinking of giving this another go, but we'll see how that turns out. Most likely going to go with Arcana Force, but I'm weighing options right now.

...Also need to look up Israeli names, because setting is strangely important to me. Hmmm. But we shall see.

@Parable: Meta decks are basically the decks that are used for competitive play today. They're discouraged because they kinda take the fun out of the game; they win, but through broken cards rather than through skill. When you have cards like Grapha or Hornet...
While I don't outright forbid Dark World or Inzektors, Grapha and Hornet tend to take the fun out of the game, so I heavily discourage their use. As the OP notes, we're here to have fun with a large siding of Large Ham, not to win duels.

History: Isaac doesn't have a particularly remarkable background. He's lived with his uncle most of his life and spent his younger years a seemingly carefree but driven individual. EDIT: For everyone's information, here's the sheet for Sophia Rozen, the head of Earth dorm.

• Name: Sophia Rozen.
• Age: 56.
• Gender: female.
• Duel Disk: Academy standard, brown-and-yellow colour scheme.
• Dorm: Head of Earth dorm.
• Appearance: Sophia is short and stocky. Her lined face and greying hair show that she isn't a young woman any more. Her face is kind, and the edges of her eyes are wrinkled — she she smiles a lot. She usually wears practical clothing. Other words, khaki-coloured pants and a short-sleeved shirt. She also wears a keffiyeh, usually (and despite the heat) as a scarf.
• History: Sophia's history is nothing special; she was just an ordinary housewife until her son Avrum was chosen as East Academy's headmaster. When he moved there, so did she, and she helped him take care of the the Israeli bureaucracy. Since then, she served as Earth dorm's head. She is a kind woman, treating her students like the grandchildren she doesn't have, and is a very good cook (her khraime is legendary). Despite her silly outward appearance (she's prone to pinching her students' cheeks and inventing silly nicknames for them) she is an intelligent woman and a fearsome duellist.

Ah, its been quite a while... I've been distracted by Magic in YGO's stead. Gimme a bit and I'll bring up the mandatory Jerkass Evii-run duelist.

• Name: Jacques Mangeau
• Age: 15
• Gender: Boy
• Duel Disk: Standard
• Dorm:
• Appearance: Jacques is about 5'5" and touchy about it. He has wide baby blue eyes and messy, greasy black hair. He has only recently moved here so he still has pale skin. He will wear just about anything that is given to him. In fact, he'll wear things that aren't given to him. He is extremely fidgety and his fingers are always in motion.
• History: Jacques Mangeau grew up in Montreal, Quebec in one of the more dangerous neighbourhoods. As such, he grew up in a hostile environment and adapted to it. His eyes can spot weakness and hide his, while his fingers have a tendency of plucking valuables with ease. Yet, despite all of this, he has a burning love of Duel Monsters. Of course, his cards were not exactly purchased with his own money, nor was the cost to fly over to Israel. The tuition was paid for by money made dueling, so that was at least earned somewhat legitimately.
