For what it's worth, a long time ago this trope had to be given an examplectomy as it was decided to repair the thread to focus specifically just on Bards alone. Before, it used to be any example from any type of video game that fit the description of the trope (such as the Pipe Runners from Advance Wars) but was used to basically just list Joke Character types or characters that had extremely limited and quirky uses.
I guess what I'm getting at is, the trope is now about bards, but now it's time to clean up the definition as to just exactly what kind of bard fits the bill for this trope.

I made a definition crowner here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/crowner.php/PageAction/SpoonyBard
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Bumping for votes.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Calling crowner in favor of splitting trope into "quirky tagalong bard" and "mechanically useless class".
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I take it that Spoony Bard will be the one to cover actual bards, then?
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. It seems like the good idea.

YKTTW'd a draft for the "Class with a gimmick often called BardÂ" split off trope
Waiting on the YKTTW, it seems.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Any progress here?
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerIs the YKTTW dead for long enough that it's Up For Grabs? I can keep it moving if needed.
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.It already has an Up For Grabs tag.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI'm gonna launch Mechanically Unusual Class when I get home in an hour.
EDIT: And done.

Looks good as a start. I made some formatting tweaks.
What else needs to happen to finish Spoony Bard?
The other trope mentioned in the crowner.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI mean, what do we do with it? Are we keeping the Spoony Bard name for the character type and splitting off the Mechanically Unusual Class examples, or what?
Keep Spoony Bard for the character type.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI'd avoid keeping the name. A) The crowner doesn't mention what fate should befall the name so saying we must keep it is kinda jumping the gun. and B) the name seems responsible for alot of the issues. It's bound to attract more "Character X is a Bard" examples.
Spoony Character would at least avoid any needless association with bards.
Hell, the Trope Namer isn't even an example of a Quirky Tagalong Character - besides being a romantic, he's not particularly more quirky than the rest of the party.

Yeah. Shall we get a Single Proposition crowner going to get this renamed?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSomebody made one already here. I suggest we just retool it, come up with some names that aren't Mechanically Unusual Class, and paste it.
I've already added Bards Are Weirdos as a possible name.

That crowner is more than two years old. And we still need the rename crowner before.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSorry, this is my first time doing any kind of serious work in the TRS. Starting the rename crowner.

Crown Description:
We're determining the definition of the trope "Spoony Bard", which is fundamentally about character classes in an RPG (be it tabletop RPG, video game RPG, or story about an RPG). The various options are mutually compatible. You can vote up or down any combination.
