Seeing how the entire image picking thread misunderstood the trope we probably should do something to it.

Personally I think we should rename it to something like Unsportsmanlike Gloating gets the point across that its sport related and very rude.

I understood the meaning of the trope perfectly from the name alone. Before I clicked it I figured it would have been about unsportsman like bragging and insulting others because they lost.

I did too but everyone else connected it to Super Heroes (which I am not a fan so...)

Yeah, some confused it for a form of Evil Gloating.

BTW, your suggestion is great, but "unsportsmanlike" is one word, in case you didn't know.

If the I Thought It Meant isn't reflected in the wicks, we probably don't need to take any action here.

Rhymes with "Protracted."

BUMP, since the Image Pickin thread just got resolved.

As suggested on that thread, Unsportmanlike Gloating sounds like a good rename, or at least a redirect.

Could we have a wicks check here?

I'll try a wick check.

Trope Definition: When a winner of a sporting event taunts the losing team. (If I have that definition wrong, or too tight or loose, let me know).

Correct:

Misuse:

Unsure:

Results: 15 correct, 14 misuse, 10 unsure. So assuming best possible results, that would be 36% misuse, and assuming worst possible results, that would be 62% misuse.

Death Note is evil gloating... That is a ton of misuse.

As well as lack of page size makes me think it's getting glanced over as evil gloating as well.

I can confirm (from MST 3 K) that there is no sports in (Arizona) Werewolf.

The Full Metal Panic one could be this if it's Fumoffu (edit: that was more pregame anyway so incorrect as well) otherwise it's Evil Gloating as well.

So quick single prop or just skip to the titles? The current name has had no support and the thread has been open for months.

Well, now that significant misuse has been proven... Hmm, not sure.

I think this is probably due for a Trope Transplant. The trope on the page can go to Unsportsmanlike Gloating, and then we make Victory Gloating a page for people gloating after the win.

That doesn't fit too much since most correct examples are Sports Victory Gloating unless we just want to expand it to all types of Victory Gloating but I am rather aganst that.

Heroic Gloating (done by the good guys) and Evil Gloating are the other tropes needed I think.

I just realized something - during my wick check, I included examples of people winning board games in the "correct section" (e.g. the Sabrina The Teenage Witch entry). I think my rationale was because tabletop games always seem similar to sports to me, in terms of the attitudes of the participants (heck, they show poker on ESPN!). But I just wanted to check: are those actual examples, or would they constitute misuse as well?

Ehh, questionable. The description refers specifically to The Big Game, which is specifically defined as a sports trope, so I think the intent was sports only.

But it's vague enough that I'm not sure.

"The description refers specifically to The Big Game"

That was just a hypothetical situation. Any game will do.

No idea what in the description would make someone think it is about sports only. It is about gloating.

It's about gloating in a situation where it's considered bad form. So while it's not limited to sports, we don't have a more broad term that covered the bad form than "unsportsmanlike".

Hold on... I don't see why this can't overlap with Evil Gloating.

Unless I'm misreading the pages, Evil Gloating is when the villain gloats about their doings to the hero. Victory Gloating would be about gloating after one has won. Well, when a villain wins (either a stage or the whole struggle), wouldn't the villain be doing both?

Also, Unsportsmanlike Gloating would just be redundant - gloating is generally considered unsportsmanlike by default.

Finally, should there be a reference to Victory Quote in the description? Overlap between the two is commonplace.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.
