Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.
It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine
They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.
I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

Explanation of what triggers the too-long page warning

About the Code Geass character page, I think it would be nice if we can make it like this:
- Characters/CodeGeassMainCharacters
- Characters/CodeGeassBlackKnights
- Chractrers/CodeGeassChineseFederation
- Characters/CodeGeassOthers

I'm a manga otaku!I will work on Broken Base today, assuming no one's started on it already.
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project!I have a little issue with using OpenOffice's word count. It only counts characters up to 65,535. No it doesn't, my computer seems to have a limit on how much it can copy/paste.
Anyway, my plan was to divide the Pokémon Anime either into the main cast * and supporting cast *, or into the current main cast *, former main cast and supporting cast.

The only issue I can see with the second option there is that "Current" cast will shift over time, so that will require some periodic maintenance of moving characters on and off the listing as the seasons progress.
Though if main cast changes are not especially frequent, it may not be a big enough issue to impact your decision.
Regarding word count, Microsoft Word doesn't seem to have the same issue... or at least, if it does, it goes higher. I will have to experiment some to be sure.

Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project!Generally speaking though, the current cast will shift every three to four years so it won't be that frequent
Season 1 - Ash, Misty, Brock and Team Rocket are introduced
Season 2 - Brock leaves, Tracey joins
Season 3 - Tracey leaves, Brock returns
Season 6 - Misty leaves, May and Max join
Season 10 - May and Max leave, Dawn joins
Season 14(?) - Dawn and Brock leave (I think?), Iris and Dent join
Either way, I don't mind. I'm just amazed a show I stopped watching 10 years ago gets so much attention.

Hmmmm You'd be better off just organizing everyone by the region or seasons they showed up in. Iris and Dent will be the main cast for the next few years, so that's not going to change anytime soon, and Misty hasn't been on the show in at least 7 years, not counting the occasional 1 or 2 episodes where she shows up again.
Divide it by season names?
Folders like:
- Main Character
- Characters introduced in season 1
- Season 2
- and so on.
Then divide it by half with the bottom half on the second page. That's what was done with the Nanoha page.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I'd still count someone who was part of Ash's gang for five years as a "main character", though.
I'd either divide it by region first introduced (probably putting Kanto, the Orange Islands and Johto together), or into "main" and "supporting".
So maybe, as in Japan they're divided into these four shows...
- Pokémon Anime Original Series (Kanto/Orange Islands/Johto)
- Pokémon Advanced Generation (Hoenn/Battle Frontier)
- Pokémon Anime Diamond and Pearl (or Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Anime) (Sinnoh)
- Pokémon Best Wishes! (Uvona)

You'd be less likely to reach the HTML code limit the more you separate them by, so putting Misty into Kanto instead of Main Cast would better remedy that issue. It's not like she isn't already mentioned as the main female lead for that region as it is.
Thank you Haven. Now Homestuck is really ready to go!
- Kids
- Trolls Group One
- Trolls Group Two
- Trolls Group Three

Frankly, I'm surprised I managed to avoid spoilers.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Decided to merge the folders so the new pages wouldn't become unnecessarily small (Y to Z would become particularly tiny). Since even the biggest page is nowhere near to break the limit again I believe there is no much problem.

Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI can't even spell Unova correctly...anyway, splitting the Pokémon Anime character sheet.
- Pokémon Anime Original Series (Kanto [Indigo League], the Orange Islands and Johto)
- Pokémon Advanced Generation (Hoenn and the Battle Frontier)
- Pokémon Diamond and Pearl Anime (Sinnoh)
- Pokémon Best Wishes! (Unova)
^ The Pokemon Anime character list still needs a "Current Main Cast" list to avoid confusion. Sure, Ash was introduced in Kanto, but he's the MAIN CHARACTER and is still developing to this day. It makes sense to put characters who ONLY appeared in a certain region in that region, but Ash, Iris, Dent, Team Rocket, Joy and Jenny should be on a character page by themselves.
.... Brock can stay in Kanto though, since he's no longer part of the cast.

Even so, I think only the central cast need a place on the Current Main Cast bit. Team Rocket (apart from the Boss), yes, the Joys and Jennys, not really.

Brock is actually returning for the Unova season, so he needs to stay. There's ONE season he wasn't there for, and that's pretty much it.
I certainly hope we can reach a decision on the WAOA character sheets soon. I've been very lazy on updating mine, and for once, the rpg is slow, and I can't take advantage of that.
Quest 64 threadThis is what happens when someone who stopped watching around the Orange Islands edits this page. Quick question though, has he returned?
What decision needs to be made on WAOA, Hydro?
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project! When he returns, we can add him back. Until then, leave it.
As for Joy and Jenny... Well.. they show up EVERYWHERE, so where are we gonna put them if not the main character list? A frequent re-occurring character list?

They were introduced in Kanto, so I'm currently putting them in Original Series. Good point about Brock though.

If you View Source then cut and paste the text of a page into a word document, you can choose the "Word Count" option which will give you a character count.
