YMMV / Juno Songs

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • Juno's cover of "BIG SHOT" is a piece that perfectly conveys Spamton's motivations and feelings towards Kris in a very strange medium; by splicing together tons of pieces of media, including a few from some infamous CD-i games and a fellow lyricist's work, and even throwing in a Rickroll for good measure! The whole thing ends up feeling like a YouTube Poop gone mad, which fits Spamton's manic, glitched-out way of speaking like a glove.
    • Juno's and Kylie's cover of "Battle! Apocalypse CURIE" showcases the titular trainer's white-hot rage towards Larkspur and his company for causing the nuclear disaster that left her and Urayne in stasis for ten years. Kylie fills the role for the human side of the duo, and Juno provides harmony as Urayne during more intense moments to underscore their unity.
    • Juno's version of "MEGALOVANIA" is considered the Man of the Internet version's mirror from the dark awesomeness it is, as it puts the song in the eyes of Chara and Frisk and instead of talking about killing monsters and how the enjoy it, they are trying to convince the player/The viewer to stop seeing the video and killing monsters; until a certain point where Chara is DONE and swears to make the player realize their consequences with an epic set of lines:
caring heart has died... emptiness inside...
      you did this to me
      STOLE MY SANITY
      ...
there is foundation made of guilt.
beneath the empire you have built.
and NOW WATCH IT CRUMBLE and now watch it BURN!
    • While his cover of "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" is a tragic piece of Magolor pleading for help, after the release of Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, Juno released a cover of Magolor Epilogue's final boss pieces, "Mistilteinn, Tree Crown Without a Ruler". And in it, Magolor tosses aside his insecurities and stands strong against the Master Crown to show how far in his growth as a person and his skill as a mage, taking verses that represented his despair and rewriting them into an oath of victory.
I know now, the darkness's design!
I must atone for all my crimes!
I resolve to use this magic of mine
      To fell the kingless crown!

Silence the calling of the void
So no more souls can be destroyed!
Cut the strings that rendered me a toy!
      And chop this tyrant down...
      to the ground!
    • Both versions of "Battle! Zero Lab WITH LYRICS" are awesome. The song starts with the professor proclaiming the superiority of Paradox Pokemon over "lesser species" while displaying their intent to bring their paradise to reality, before the AI reasserts themselves and implores the protagonist to prevent the ecological disaster that will occur should their creator succeed. The second half ramps up the intensity as the Paradise Protection Protocol takes over and snaps as they unambiguously declare their intent to kill in the name of their magnum opus. This is finally topped off with the AI regaining control once more to encourage the protagonist and their Raidon to defeat them and save Paldea.
      Through the gates of Eden
Lies a paradise past bonds of time
      Where barriers of ages crumble
To the light of my design!
Fight before my will is done
And I will strike you down with force!
The past and future live as one
      As evolution takes its course!
  • Complete Monster: Kirby and the Forgotten Land songs: Fecto Elfilis, the Ultimate Life Form, is a ruthless, arrogant, and sadistic alien conqueror that seeks to conquer the stars. Fecto once waged war on humanity before being captured and experimented on, causing a part of them to split off and become Elfilin and going dormant. After humanity left the planet, Fecto manipulated the Beast Pack into serving them, and then created portals to Planet Popstar so they could capture Waddle Dees from there to use as labor to restore their strength. After Kirby defeats the leader of the Beast Pack, Fecto assimilates him and several other members of the Beast Pack to consume everything, before they manage to assimilate Elfilin. Assuming their true form, Fecto declares themself the "god of war" and their intent to conquer and rend Dreamland asunder, before battling Kirby. After Kirby frees Elfilin, Fecto angrily creates a vortex to Planet Popstar to crash it into the new world to destroy both worlds and kill Kirby out of spite.
  • Crossover Ship: According to one of the comments on Death Toll, Beelze and DJ Hallyboo. Doubles as Ho Yay.
  • Fountain of Memes: Ever since Juno became DJ Hallyboo's official voice actor, Hallyboo has been the source of many law-related memes.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • While Man on the Internet covered Spamton NEO's secret normal route boss fight, Juno did a cover of his Snowgrave/Weird Route boss fight. MOTI's song is mostly Word-Salad Horror (granted, still to a good rhythm) with a few hints of lore like mentioning Mike. Juno's song, in contrast, is a lot more coherent and evil, going on a Motive Rant about Spamton's plan to get the castle back, without acknowledging his strings. This pretty much fits with how differently Spamton acts in these two routes.
    • In one of the artworks for "Roar of Dedede (Reprise)", Forgo Dedede has teeth. Not only does it make sense considering Juno voices Dedede with his accent from the anime, whose version of Dedede is often seen with teeth, but as a comment pointed out, the teeth are a sign of Dedede's Sanity Slippage, since at that point, Dedede wanted nothing but to eat Kirby.
    • In "Monochrome DX", the only references to other parts of the Pokémon franchise that don't appear in the Freeze-Frame Bonus are Red, Ash, and the protagonists of Legends. While Red is a case of They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character and Ash's absence sums up to him being from an Alternate Continuity, the absence of the protagonists of Legends fits the theme of the Lost Silver creepypasta and, by extension, of "Monochrome": they've died hundreds, if not thousands of years before the events of Gold, and their role in the events of Legends has been forgotten.
    • Speaking of Gold, Juno's artwork of his Body Horror once Gold Turns Red has Unown in his eye sockets. First off, according to Bandubs, Gold's body is actually puppeteered by the Unown, and while in Juno's cover it's made clear Gold is the one who is singing, the Unown in the eye sockets make it clear the Unown are the ones keeping Gold in the land of the living (since Gold makes it clear he died long ago). Second, the Unown in Gold's eye sockets are the G Unown and the S Unown... As in Gold and Silver.
    • King Dedede's lyric in "Roar of Dedede", "To the Beasts, the King is a loyal tool" has a double meaning to it. On the surface, it refers to how he, the ruler of Dreamland, has been Brainwashed into being a loyal member of the Beast Pack. However, it can also refer to Leongar, the ruler of the Beast Pack themselves, who is an Unwitting Pawn for Fecto Forgo.
    • In "Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit," right before making their attempt to crash Planet Popstar into the New World, Fecto Elfilis sings "Still you fight, you yearn for home?/Even when you're all alone?" At this point, Kirby's already freed Elfilin, meaning that he isn't alone. However, as one viewer points out, Elfilis doesn't consider Elfilin their own person, just a missing piece of themself.
    • Cyrus subtly refers to Dialga's and Palkia's types in his lines 'Iron and tide shall shape the world to the vision'.
    • The AI professor boasts that they "tamed their death", referring to literally capturing and taming the Raidon that killed the original professor, as well as figuratively cheating death through both their AI duplicate and the overridden AI acting as if they were the professor revived.
  • Friendly Fandoms: Ever since RecD, creator of Friday Night Funkin' WITH LYRICS, commented on his full Whitty week video, the two have become close friends, and frequently work with each other on projects regarding the game.
  • Funny Moments:
    • In the climax of "Triple Trouble", Xenophanes has Boyfriend literally in his clutches, lurching out of the computer monitor to grab him by the head. It seems as if he's going to be left on a Downer Ending... until Girlfriend reveals the reason she wasn't there was to grab a massive hammer to crush the computer with, banishing Xenophanes while he was holding a note dramatically.
Girlfriend: Leeet's just go back to emulating Mario games.
    • Yape, The Bad Disco, Excercise, and Magolor on coffee. Twice. That is all.
    • The ending of Bowser's Highway Showdown has Bowser being flung to parts unknown but his biggest concern is not even remotely related to that or Mario's victory. Instead it's this:
      Bowser: I'm not insuuuuuuured!!!!!!!
    • Everything about Bowser vs Spamton. Especially since both parties talk over each other multiple times.
    • The entire Big Run Takeover is hilarious in concept, but there's a couple of images that are especially great:
      • Donkey Kong in "Gangplank Salmon" coming out of his house, muching a bananna, only to see the water has somehow risen almost up to his house and the Salmonids are invading. His reaction is pure gold. Then there's King K. Rool, who is strong enough to clobber a Maws with his boxing gloves.
      • The Delta Warriors in "Big Shot" racing down what would normally be Spamton NEO's arena as it's being invaded by the Salmonids, with poor Ralsei driving while looking utterly freaked out. On the flipside, in a moment of awesome, Susie deflects a Big Shot's cannonball with her axe. Oh, and lastly, there's Spamton's reaction to all of this nonsense in The Stinger...
Spamton: WHAT ARE YOU [Fresh fish at market price] DOING IN MY [Hyperlink blocked]
    • Shortly after the release of V2 of Monochrome, Juno showed a picture of Gold holding a pen in his mouth and trying to write a reference to Pokémon X and Y in the lyrics, only for him to slam his head on the desk because making a joke with X and Y sounds stupid. It must be seen to be believed.
      • Crosses with Moment of Awesome since the pic implies Gold was the one who wrote the lyrics in-universe. Given how this song, despite its creepiness, is a bop, and that Gold managed to do it without limbs or eyes, it's both awesome and hilarious.
    • Someone asked in a comment praising Juno's cover of "Two Planets Approache the Roche Limit" what did they do to deserve such an amazing cover. Juno's response? "Be patient like Magolor asked".
    • Shortly after releasing his lyrical cover of No Party, Juno also made a Spanish cover of the first verse... done in a similar manner to the "Yo soy Luigi" meme that was going on with Mr. L. Even funnier, Boyfriend's voice was put through Stylistic Suck.
    • Bowser's Rage Stage has the end after Peach hits Bowser's weak spot and he starts flying around out of control with blue magic bursting out of him, before he eventually regains control and looks ready for another round, asking if Peach really thought that would be enough to stop him. Then another poof comes out of the gaping hole in his head, and he realizes that in fact, it was enough to stop him.
      Bowser: Apparently you were right.
    • Big Betrayal has Shiver and Frye calling out Big Man for his "betrayal" of the group for hanging out with those "Inkopolis Chumps", the after song image shows that Marie overheard that remark and is holding Shiver and Frye by their ears, looking very unamused while the two look nervous. She is their boss, after all...
      Marie: So, we're "chumps" huh?
      Shiver: uh oh.
      • There's also the sight of Big Man being chased through the streets of Splatsville by Shiver and Frye, while passers-by look completely bewildered.
    • April 2024 (titled the "Month Of Shenanigans"), includes a cover of #@$%* Dudes Be #@$%* Sleepin' which has Pearl going on a tirade filled with multiple F-bombs, the song then end with someone asking Pearl is she kisses Marina with that mouth, which leads to this line:
      Pearl: With tongue, f**k off!
    • For Tax Day, Juno posted a song where Yoshi sings about the joys of commiting tax fraud. Just as he's about to get through another verse DJ Hallyboo appears and attempts to arrest Yoshi, leading to this exchange:
Yoshi: Wait, I thought you were the anti piracy guy?
Hallyboo: Eh, the feds are understaffed.
      • And then, as Hallyboo starts chasing Yoshi, he briefly turns to the viewers and gives a genuine piece of advice:
Hallyboo: No, seriously, do not commit tax fraud. This channel is not responsible for whatever happens if you do.
    • Included within the Month Of Shenanigans is a cover of Sloprano, where all the cuss words The Great Mighty Poo utters are censored with fart sounds. The end of the video even show a close up The Great Mighty Poo's mouth complete with a wet fart sound effect.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: A Freeze-Frame Bonus in "Monochrome DX" shows May drowning, presumably due to Team Aqua winning. There actually is a Friday Night Funkin' mod named "Ingrained" featuring May trapped into an And I Must Scream Fate Worse than Death by her Roselia after she failed to stop Team Aqua, and the mod actually has a cover of "Monochrome" with May over Gold and a song in which May and Gold are a Dual Boss. And given how Gold is aware of Dawn having to deal with Hell Bell, the Ingrained mod may actually be how Gold knows May's fate. Silver lining is that the mod is not canon to the Easter Egg - Snow on Mt. Silver creepypasta, which Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby and Reidd Maxwell (the creator of the Lost Silver game version) treat as a prequel to Lost Silver; since the Gen 1 and Gen 3 games canonically happen around the same time, Team Aqua (and, while at it, Team Magma) had to lose for Easter Egg-Snow On Mt. Silver to take place. But even then, the mod shows that a Bad Future where Team Aqua wins does exist. That said, the jumpscare-free version of Juno's cover has Kyogre stating that the May from Juno's cover and the May from the Ingrained mod are different versions of May.
Kyogre: (pops in) "guys for the last time it's not ingrained"
  • Heartwarming Moments:
  • Magnificent Bastard: Lyrical cover of "MEGALOVANIA": Chara is portrayed more sympathetically than in most fan works. Disgusted at the player for slaughtering dozens across the entire Underground and corrupting Frisk into a monster, Chara replaces Frisk and faces Sans in the Last Corridor alone. When they manage to kill the skeleton, something their predecessor couldn't do, Chara destroys the world as a way of showing the player their actions have consequences, emerging victorious.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Dedede's night school Explanation
    • DJ Hallyboo related memes:
      • Piracy is no party!Explanation
      • X is no party!Explanation
      • Soy el antipirataExplanation
      • WHAT KIND OF APOLOGIES ARE THESE?! I CAN'T ACCEPT THIS!Explanation
  • Misaimed Fandom: A staggering amount of viewers believe that Juno and Man on the Internet are at odds, despite them clarifying rather often that they aren't, with Juno being a rather common voice and artist on the latter's channel and Alex occasionally voicing for the former.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Neon J's commands to 1010 were already this in the original game, but they're even moreso here, where they're worked into the lyrics.
"Your love can make us fly~"
    "Troops! To the sky-y-y-y-~!"
  • Nightmare Retardant:
    • A jumpscare-free version of Monochrome DX exists that intentionally invokes this. While obviously nothing was done to replace the gory imagery of Gold himself, all of the jumpscares featuring the other protagonists were replaced by crude, goofy images that barely relate to what they replaced: Kyogre stating that the version of May seen in the cover is not the version from Ingrained, Dawn taking a picture of the Liberty Bell, bacon Yveltal, Selene and Lillie kissingnote , Big Chungus Scorbunny, Koraidon with the Heavy and a sandvich crudely pasted on, and an actual panel from an official Pokemon manga where all of Unova's gym leaders are crucified, complete with a "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer.
      • Additionally, most of the jumpscares featuring him are replaced with either a blown-up image of Ethan captioned "Ooga Booga" or Ethan, Dawn, and Hypno celebrating Oktoberfest in a parody of the mock jumpscare from Pizza Tower's "Don't Make A Sound" level.
    • While King Boo's Nightmare Face in the stinger of "A Night at Boo's Opera" is legitimately scary, it's undercut by the fact that it's just a Nightmare Face bouncing up and down, as well as King Boo giving a warning before the Jump Scare and just shouting "Ooga booga booga!" in his normal voice during it (though it's still enough to scare Luigi.)
    • In the Scarlet version of "Battle! Zero Lab", while Scream Tail looks creepy as all hell, it's mitigated by the fact that Juliana's Revavroom is also grossed out and looks downright concerned about the notion of fighting it.
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Whenever Juno or Man on the Internet make similar covers (especially around the same time), fans are quick to accuse one of them to copying each other. They have to both repeatedly clarify that they're not rivals, although that doesn't stop fans from assuming otherwise.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: In "Monochrome DX", Gold shows the grim fates of every protagonist from Gen 3 onwards... But he doesn't show any grim fate for Red, Leaf or Kris. It's particularly blatant in Red's case since we know that in the mod Red and Gold suffered the same fate (being frozen to death), so Juno could have made a nod to Frostbite, much like he made one to Death Toll. However, this would be mitigated for Red at least if Juno would decide to do "Frostbite WITH LYRICS", since that would show exactly what happened to Red in the context of Gold's song, but even then, Leaf and Kris would still be unaccounted for.
  • Unexpected Character:
