"There is power in your memories. Look deeply through your past, but reserve recalling your best times for moments when you really need to. Every time you relive a memory, the chemicals in your brain change how your mind perceives it. Eventually, your most precious moments may become a blur of truth and falsehoods. Memoria is a story about memory. There are few things more important."
Gekko, the series' writer

An undisclosed amount of time after Mother 3's rather Ambiguous Ending, we have Memoria.

Created by sibling team Gekko and Meedee, Memoria has a new chosen four go on a grand adventure, initially starting as a Brother–Sister Team that leave their hometown to look for their missing brother, meeting familiar and unfamiliar characters to the Mother fandom as their quest progresses; discovering new truths about the mysterious world they live in. As the name suggests, this comic has an underlying theme of memories, serving as a major theme throughout its narrative and characters. At the center of it all lies an ultimate truth, one the creators believed would be difficult to comprehend, but would explain why it is the way it is and bring together the elements of all three Mother games.

The comic acts somewhat as an indirect continuation on Gekko and Meedee's previous Mother comics, Harmony and sister story The White Ship, which served to tie together EarthBound and its sequel by acting as an Interquel story involving many familiar faces and new ones alike. While reading these is not required to enjoy it, elements of them do appear in Memoria's story, so it is still recommended to read them first.

Starting here, the comic updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in its thread on Starman.net where it can still be found (with a more complete index being available here), running from June 19th 2010 to June 11th 2012. Unfortunately, the authors eventually came to a reluctant decision to end the comic after six chapters due to difficulty balancing working on the comic with life. However, they did post the complete scripts for the remaining chapters, epilogue, and a special focused on the character of Penny that was set to run alongside the comic here, allowing the full story to still be viewed for those who wish to read it.

Not to be confused with the defunct MSPA Forum Adventure, .Memoria, which used to be on this page. Or with the 2013 sequel to the German adventure game The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav.

Tropes included

  • Beehive Barrier: As in its predecessors, the PSI shields are portrayed this way.
  • Black Magician Girl: Much like Ana, Paula and Kumatora, Harriet is a wielder of primarily offensive PSI, though she favors the new techniques of PK Shock and PK Songbird.
  • Bratty Teenage Daughter: Harriet comes off as this somewhat at first, but she really does care about her family.
  • The Bully: Will "Jerkface" at the beginning of the comic.
  • Car Fu: The Starman boss fight at the Azura Mall ends like this, courtesy of Clad In Rad.
  • Cast of Snowflakes: Every character, even those in the background look distinct.
  • Cheerful Child: Winston to a T, which makes it very unsettling to see him show up utterly silent with a stern Thousand-Yard Stare later on.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Lucas shows signs of this, feeling the need to try and help the cultist residents of Starlight Valley over simply fleeing while they have the chance as Harriet wants to. Thankfully, he's more than capable of doing so.
  • Creepy Child: Cazula, who poses as "the voice" of the Dark Dragon and acts as a full-blown cult leader for the residents of Starlight Valley.
  • Continuity Nod: To previous comics (Harmony, The White Ship) and the Mother games.
    • Notably, the New Tazmily Village, with most of its old inhabitants for Mother 3.
    • In Chapter 6, we see Marvin, the bunny salesman/former Pigmask after the party crashed in the middle of a field.
  • Creepy Crows: Ravenous Ravens attack Harriet and Matty in Burgundy Park.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Starlight Valley; color returns to the town after Cazula is defeated.
  • Disappeared Dad: An important part of Cazula's back story. Her father died of illness shortly after visiting the Tower of Land, leaving her alone and to end up creating a cult in her desperation to see him again.
  • Distressed Dude: Matty during the Starlight Valley arc.
  • Everything Trying to Kill You: The wildlife, as mentioned. Now it also includes a lamp and Matty's sleeping bag.
  • The Faceless: Hinawa and Claus in Lucas's nightmare.
  • Fan Girls: Angie and Richie to a rather awkward-responding Lucas.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Delphia, like previous girls in the Mother series, wields elemental PSI.
  • Healing Hands: Healing PSI, which is known so far by both Lucas and later Matty.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Harriet says how disgusting she finds woman gushing over men older than them after seeing Angie and Richie fighting over Lucas... A few pages after she was gushing over Fuel, who's probably even older than her than Lucas is to Angie and Richie. Matty takes notice of this.
  • Noodle Incident: Elton of Clad in Rad's reaction to running over the Neo-Starman Deluxe?
"I hope it's not some guy in a costume..."
    "...again..."
  • Older and Wiser: Lucas, while still bearing the mental scars from all he's been through, has ultimately grown into a very wise and kind young man in spite of his past, successfully reaching and helping the likes of Cazula by talking her down in the end and overall acting as a figure of reason for the more naive and impulsive Harriet and her brother.
  • Orphaned Series: The authors weren't making as much progress as they'd hoped by the time they decided to end it, and wanted to focus on a new original series instead due to fear of missing other opportunities. However, the scripts to the remaining chapters were uploaded so readers could at least finish the story, even without the illustrations.
  • Painting the Medium: Every character has a different-colored speech bubble.
  • Power Glows: This often comes with the use of PSI, such as Harriet glowing orange when using PK Shock.
  • Power Trio: Starting at the end of Chapter 2 - Harriet, Matty, and Lucas.
  • The Promise: Lucas's promise to retrieve a kidnapped Matty.
  • Psi Blast: "PK Favorite" moves, such as Lucas's PK Love and Harriet's PK Songbird, are shown to take this form.
  • Psychic Powers: As an EarthBound/Mother series based comic, this is more or less a given, with both new and old PSI techniques showing up plenty.
  • Recurring Element: As a continuation of the MOTHER series, many classic staples from the games show up here, though several come with a twist:
    • Harriet is a female PSI adept with primarily offensive techniques, though in this case, she's also the main protagonist.
    • Matty is a male PSI adept with primarily healing and support techniques, though he's not the main protagonist.
    • PK Songbird is a devastatingly powerful PSI move named after the user's favorite thing, though it's wielded by Harriet, whereas PK Rockin' and PK Love were used by the otherwise support-based Ness and Lucas.
    • The flames from the towers act much like the eight melodies and the seven needles, acting as a goal for the protagonists that also grant them stronger PSI abilities.
    • Clad In Rad act as the famous band much like The Runaway Five and DCMC, down to pulling a Big Damn Heroes moment and suddenly arriving out of nowhere to help the party defeat a seemingly insurmountable foe.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: The Heaving Gila, guardian of the Tower of Land, is of course a giant gila monster. With PSI.
  • Sand Blaster: The Heaving Gila has mastery over sand, to the point it can even turn its body into it.
  • Shock and Awe: Harriet's PK Shock technique has the appearance of this, though unlike the more straightforward PK Thunder it's actually a mind shock, having the appearance and mental effect of an electric shock without actually electrocuting.
  • Signature Move: As in the original series, a "PK Favorite" move serves as this, with Harriet's PK Songbird embodying her love for songbirds and taking a form resembling the ribbons she dances with, and Lucas's PK Love returning as well.
  • Super-Soldier: The Neo Starman Infantry Unit can have both physical and psychic shields up, fire powerful lasers and can summon a black hole-esque portal.
  • Troubled, but Cute: Lucas has grown up to be a wise, handsome and kind young man, but the effects of the mass amount of trauma he went through still show their head every once in a while.
  • Town with a Dark Secret: Starlight Valley appears to be a peaceful and quaint little village from the outside, but harbors a sinister cult. Thankfully, it gets better.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Strawberry Quiche for Harriet, Caramelized Octopus for Matty, and Omelets for Lucas. The third page also mentions Curry Burritos for Delphia and Milk for Sylvester, and the blankets Duster sent Kumatora smell like cheese.
  • White Mage: Much like Ninten, Ness and Lucas, Matty ends up favoring support techniques like PSI Lifeup and PSI Healing. This is of course still true for Lucas himself as an adult, though he also still wields PK Love.
